Hey Anonymous,
What spring were you talking about, the one that hold the bulb in place or the one on the front trim (called the "Headlamp Door")?

How to change 2000 vw beetle headlights put ion new one does not work

There are two spring clips located under the hood around each headlamp housing. Open both clips and extract the headlamp housing from the front of the car by pulling the plastic assembly by grabing the edges by the black rubber seal. The entire headlamp housing will pull out from the front bumper enough to allow you to change the bulbs. Repeat procedure and clip the spring clamps back in place.

How do i remove a headlamp assembly

lift the bonnet and look behind the headlamp in question, there will be a few nuts that are holding the assembly to the front apron, remove them and also the electrical plug from behind the headlamp.
if it is only a bulb you have to replace you will find that where the electrical plug connects to the rear of the headlamp there is a rubber weatherproof boot which you remove, it will expose the rear of the halogen bulb, there will be a little metal spring type arm retaining the bulb, push the end of the spring towards the back of the headlamp and to the side and let it come back away from the headlamp, this will let the bulb come out and you replace it with the new bulb and replace the items in reverse order

How do you change out a burned out headlight for a 2002 Beetle?

There's a spring clip inside the hood compartment that holds the headlamp assemby in position. Release the spring clamp, grab around the edges of the headlamp where it meets the front fender and pull the headlamp assembly out of it's socket. Replace the bulb from the back of the headlamp assembly and reposition the headlamp assembly back into the socket. Once properly position replace tension of the spring clamps inside the hood.
