Throw the black one away. just like any cartridge gaming console they all need to be cleaned once in a while. try using a q-tip and rubbing alcohol to clean the game cartridge. never blow directly into the game cartridge use your shirt or any type of cloth to blow through. the condensation from your breath will corrode the contacts.

That's normal. The gba will play all three generations of game boy games. The start up screen that comes up is that of whichever cartridge you are putting in.
The lead or plug on your charger may be cracked. I have a SP charger but it has a bit of the plastic cracked off and has to be in a certain position to work properly. Otherwise you will need a new battery.
How comfortable are you with opening you GBA? This website below is a site that I found to purchase a new screen. All you need to do now is to figure out how to open and remove the old screen. The rest should be a snap. http://store.videogamecentral.com/gbareplscreen.html
you can yes but I dont think you can buy the part, so you'll need to look out for another broken GBA SP. Once you have another you'll need a "triwing" screwdriver (google it or ebay it!) to open the GBA SP
Once you're inside the button will pop out easily.
To be honest though, given the price of working GBA SPs on ebay, I'd just buy another. its easier ;)
The new screens being sold are for the Japanese model that is why they fit a bit differently. Also they are just not as bright. There is nothing you can do really to fix this. As you can see on your old screen there is a black frame around the screen, this helped to keep the light centered into the plastic over the LCD and make it brighter, the Japanese version doesn't have this. The LED used is also not as bright on the replacement screens.
