SOURCE: 1998 BMW R 1100 RT starter won't turn over. Bike won't start.

Alex ,
the battery is not your problem . it sound more like the starter motor giving you grief or alternator or regulator .
The electronic system on these are Bosch which are very sensitive to fluctuations of power .
Now when your starter draw power it really sucks power out of your battery and hopefully you have enough for the rest of the appliances .
the hard line of all this is that the battery may look good and hold the charge for a while but once the starter motor draw power to start the bike , you have very little power left to service the rest of power needed for the electronics . Make sure the alternator give you enough charge , test it while running , it should give you between 13.5 V to 14.8 V output or see if you accelerate the bike the headlight becomes brighter . If the light stays dole or dimms while giving a bit of gas , your alternator or regulator has a problem and will have to be tested and replaced .
have a look at all this and let me know how you go

SOURCE: ABS light will not reset

you have to check the wires going to the abs, could be a bad wire, if they are ok then either the new sensor is malfunctioning, or the abs sentral is fried

My BMW R1100 RT motorbike spluttered a bit then stopped and all electric power was lost. Freshly serviced with new battery and alternator belt, fuses look ok. Any ideas?

Mark,

Electrical problems are hard to diagnose at the bike and much harder to do remotely....Here is a link to the BMW motorcycle owners discussion board, you may find some answers there...Good luck.... I miss my RT !
