Im not sure about "bolt straight on" but it should be very close. most times bike models run for years without much major change. You may have to change a few brackets, or do a bit of bending and filing to get it to fit. The 06 ZZR has the twin headlights. I looked at some pictures carefully of the two different models. The frame is the same for both, so there is a good chance it will bolt straight on.
More than likely you need a 12 volt model, very few bikes these days have 6 volt systems. I have used a Battery Tender in the past with good results, they do not last forever though.
find the coils and check the terminals with a tester to see if power is getting to them. if it is then it could be the coils or ht leads/ caps
if no power at coil then problem is between battery and coil or in the kill switch. check all ground / earth terminals you can find also
