I can ride but only with the clutch half engaged, if i let it all the way out the engine cuts out... to get this far i had to adjust the clutch to the first position
Might be worth noting I had this problem around 3 days ago but I put it down to the engine being cold since it stopped happening around a minute later - this time I had to resort to riding with the clutch half in... Interestingly thats exactly how it feels when it cuts out, like the bike is cold.Might be worth noting I had this problem around 3 days ago but I put it down to the engine being cold since it stopped happening around a minute later - this time I had to resort to riding with the clutch half in... Craftsman Garden Tractor 917.28746 Engine shuts off when engaging mower deck. 917.28746 ... Then start the tractor and pull the pto button out. If the engine ...
iFixitI have an older Murray riding lawn mower, whenever I engage the mower the engine dies, otherwise it runs .... My dr feild brush mower ... cuts off when I engage theblades. ... My Huskee only shut off once I put it in drive with the blade engage.
My solution was, engine off, ignition off. Hands off the clutch, Rock and downshift, rock and downshift a good half a dozen times to make absolutely sure you are in 1st gear. Now, still without touching the clutch, rock and VERY gently upshift. If you can push the bike back and forth without the clutch and the gears aren't engaging the engine, you're there. NOW turn on the ignition and pray for the green light.
With the engine not running can you select 1st gear pull in the clutch lever and push the bike with no difficulty, if you cant, it may be the clutch plates have become stuck together, this can occure from standing for long periods, if you can push the bike it may be the neutrol safety switch, or the side stand safety switch have become faulty, and cutting the bike out as a precaution
two possible problems. check power from safty switchs, put the lever down under the seat and rock the back tires back and forth until you here a click. then try again. a safty swith is giving you problems
could be a few different things,But always start with the small( inexpensive )first and work your way up...#1 check your clutch cable adjustment to be sure its engaging and disengaging properly(clutch cables stretch over time and need replaced or adjusted)...but if you have never done any clutch work to the bike(and you ride it like i do mine) #2. it probably needs new clutch plates and #3 maybe clutch basket from your description of the problem. the clutch plate fibers wear down over time(they are like brake pads and wear out).and the plates wear groves in the clutch basket and interfear with the plate movement...hopefully its just your cable..hope this helps..
your clutch is draging adjust the clutch cable so that when you are on the bike with the bike off and in gear and clutch pulled in you can move the bike freely that means the clutch is engaged
