2003 Triumph Bonneville America Questions & Answers
Start problem triumph
sounds like the live for the run switch is not there this feeds the cdi unit and the starter relay trigger
Why would my 2005 Triumph Bonneville America go through
I'd guess spark plug range is your most likely issue. Unless you just have some loose wires - check for that first. Research your area's weather, and make sure to check with Triumph regarding spark plug recommendations. This information could be in your Owner's Manual. Always use plugs that match your riding style AND the weather. You shouldn't have to remove the ICUs in the winter. If you think you do, maybe check for shorts in the system. You shouldn't be getting any ground leakage at all.
2003 bonneville jumps out of second gear why partially ?
I'm afraid most likely the fork which moves the gears is bent or broke a tang off. Regardless of problem the whole engine will have to come out and apart. If you're mechanical, spend a couple bucks on a service manual from for example amazon. Check with some shops around you and see if they'll take over at how far your abilities go. Removing and replacing the engine alone can save huge bucks, it's involved but straight forward, a lot of steps but little ones. Taking pics, marking connections with tape, taking notes etc make it managable.
Bogs down at high rpm
check for fuel flow from the tank . check for blocked fuel filter. check that the choke butterfly is not being allowed to close at high air flow causing the engine to flood.
I have done all the recomendations jturcotte gave
The starter doesn't have enough torque to turn the engine - replace it, it's either the wrong model for the bike or severely worn out. But i must say i haven't heard of a problem like that in a very long time.
Is loud backfiring a carb problem ?
It could need carb adjust.
If you or someone else adjusted the air/fuel screw on it.
Also altitude change can affect it to a degree.
Also if your ignition timining (when the spark plug sparks) is off.
If it is making the "backfire" sound out the exhaust then it's actually "afterfire"
"Backfire is when it actually makes that noise going out the intake side.
If it does that going out your intake side you probably have a mechanical problem (timing).
My 2003 america will not
I
assume the engine is not seized and the battery is charged and good. Push the starter button, if
you hear a click from the solenoid the button is good. Now , jump the
two cable posts on the starter solenoid. If the starter works you have a
bad solenoid. If you push the starter button and tap on the starter
with a plastic hammer and the starter works, you need new starter
brushes. If anything else in the starter is keeping it from working you
need a new starter unless the starter parts are available from the
manufacturer. Check your dealer to see what parts are available for your starter.
Bike is back firing and has a hard time
Sounds like the carbs need to be synchronized. What you have with a multi carb bike is a multiple small engines attached to the same crankshaft. If one is accelerating harder than the others, it will cause "cylinder fight" as the others either fight to keep up, or slow the faster one down. You need a special tool to do it, or you can get it done reasonably cheap at almost any bike shop. It could also just be a spark plug wire shorting out. And make sure they are in the right order. Good luck.
Cant sus batt box
Remove the seat. Acess to the battery should be from under the seat.
What is involved in a 20000km service on a triumph
My friend, you leave a lot open on this question. You ask about 20,000 KM, is your bike sold for the USA market or another country. Service requirements are different for different countries and different for different kinds of service. Might this be a bike you bought overseas and imported to your present area? You don't say from whence you hail ... nor from whence the Triumph hails ...
It seems you are a devout Triumph owner/operator - spmeone who is intersted in maintaining his motorcycle at the highest level. With that in mind, I offer the following: it my suggestion is you to find a dealer in your area and ask them this question.
Better yet, since it is winter, take the bike to the shop, tell them you want it put in proper order and you will be back when it is done.
If you have more concerns, please post your comment to this question and I will respond.
Thanks for posting your question to FixYa.com
About 80ks bike back fires
did the mechanic check the valve clearance also has he tried playing around with the mixture screw in pic below sounds like unburnt fuel firing in manifolds also maybe timing out get back to me with results
Clunk from engine/crankcase area
Try at stationary under heavy load with clutch to isolate, sounds serious, I'd check all transmission connections are right before riding again.
