My battery wont stay charged?

It may be worth checking the battery itself, charge it off the bike, leave for 24hrs. Reconnect to the charger and check that the reading was the same as when you charged it. If it takes another top-up charge, the battery maybe at fault.

My 88 hurricane has some timing chain noise

Your bike is 22 years old. Yes, you should worry. If that chain breaks and locks up the engine at 60 mph, you will go flying down the street on your hands and knees until an oncoming car permanently stops your forward motion. Got the picture?

Get the bike serviced if you can get a dealer to work on the bike. Be aware that the cost for the repair, a new chain, gaskets, and chain tensioner ( if you can still find them ), is likely to be more than the bike is worth. A possible source for parts is the site below.

I have just replaced the clutch on a 1988

Those bolts should compress the springs, and seat in the clutch cover, if they do not seat and tighten up they will come loose. There may be a spacer that you have missed, or if an after market clutch kit was used maybe the spacers were not included with the kit, whichever one it is these bolts must seat and tighten up or the clutch will not work properly.

I have a 1988huricane 600 with a charging system

Charging fault as the running engine will produce current if magneto / alterantor is working. Check charge rate with multimeter across battery terminals = 13.8v - 14.5v at just above idle. Some are up to 16.5V at 5000rpm, but you will need to check against your manul.
