Hi, Tom, the best way to jump-start your bike is to use a jumper battery and cables, if available, before trying to push start: 1. Your battery connections must be clean and tight. 2. Jumper cables should have 8 or 6 gauge wire. 3. Only use a known good fully charged jumper battery. 4. When jumping from an automobile the engine "MUST" be off. 5. Connect the positive cable first. 6. Let the bike battery charge for 1 minute before starting. 7. Once the bike has started, remove the negative cable first. 8. If no battery is available you can try to push start. 9. Always look for a downhill slope if available. 10. Shift into 2nd gear clutch in and have someone push you then stand up on the footpegs and slam your buttocks into the seat exactly at the same time let the clutch lever out. Hi John: Greg Mahin will probably be able to help you. I'd be suspicious that there may be an electrical problem with the fuel pump, but that's only because you said there is one. All my Harleys were gravity fed carbs. Would it be possible to check the fuel pump for a bad ground? Cheers.

you should have a adjustment screw up top by throttle with locking nuts lossen lock nut then screw outward to tighten and inward to lossen

I know it sounds like a really silly thing to ask someone who seems as qualified as you but did you check the compression release and make sure it was not stuck open?

Install or place the wheel into position between the forks with the valve stem on the right side of the vehicle. THEN coat the axle with bearing grease. THEN while supporting the wheel, insert the threaded end of the axle through the right fork leg and push it through the fork, the short external spacer and the wheel hub until it begins to emerge from the left side. THEN with the three notches on the bearing side, push the axle through the long external spacer and the left fork leg until the axle shoulder contacts the external spacer on the right fork side. THEN install the flat washer, lock washer and axle nut. THEN insert a screwdriver or a steel rod through the hole in the axle on the right side of the motorcycle AND THEN while holding axle stationary tighten the axle nut to 50-55 ft-lbs (68-75 Nm). THEN insert a 7/16 inch drill bit into the hole in the axle and pull the fork leg so that it just contacts the drill bit, and then tighten the axle holder nuts to 132-180 in-lbs or (14.9-20.3 Nm). THEN remove the drill bit from the axle hole. THEN install the brake caliper tightening the mounting bolts to 28-38 ft-lbs or (37.9-51.5 Nm). THEN BEFORE moving the motorcycle, pump the front brake hand lever until the caliper pistons push the pads against the brake discs because if the pads have not been hydraulically pushed out against the brake disk the brakes will not work when they are first attempted to be applied. SO, depress front brake hand lever several times to set the brake pads to the proper operating position within caliper before you attempt to move or ride the motorcycle.

1. Remove seat. To protect against accidental start-up of vehicle, disconnect the negative battery cable before proceeding. Inadequate safety precautions could result in death or serious injury. 2. Unthread bolt and remove battery negative cable (black) from battery negative (-) terminal. 3. Remove the primary chaincase cover. 4. Bend tab on lockplate away from head of jackshaft bolt. 5. Holding pinion gear to prevent rotation, remove the jackshaft bolt with lockplate and thrust washer. 6. From right side of motorcycle, remove starter front mounting screw with lockwasher. Remove rear mounting screw with lockwasher (and battery negative cable ring terminal). Remove Keps nut from stud of bracket tab and remove exhaust support bracket. 7. Pull back rubber boot and remove flange nut from starter post. Remove main power and battery positive cable ring terminals from starter post. 8. Depress external latch and pull solenoid connector from top of starter housing. 9. Locate oil filler plug/dipstick on right side of motorcycle at top of transmission case. To remove the oil filler plug, pull steadily while moving plug back and forth. 10. Remove the starter from the right side of the motorcycle, carefully sliding it through the space between the exhaust pipe and side cover. NOTE: If necessary, remove Allen screw and decorative chrome cover to facilitate starter removal. 11. Remove the coupling from the starter motor output shaft, if necessary.

It is most probably a faulty switch, I had the same problem on my 2000 fatboy, I removed the switch and touched the wires together to see if the starter turned over which it did so I replaced the switch and have had no more problems so far.
