My clutch wont engage after replacing a broken

The cable needs to be adjusted to 1/16 inch of freeplay. If it is not engaging, the cable may be too tight. Should be able to adjust it at the lever.

I have replaced the battery and ignition unit on my 1985 suzuki 700 es, the bike really sounds like it wants to run but wont start. Starter turns but engine won't kick over. Any Ideas?

Is it getting gas properly? Has it been sitting around for a while? The carburators on motorcycles need to cleaned after sitting around. The jet could be full of varnish. Are you getting spark for sure? Pull out a spark plug and put it in the wire, crank it over and see if the spark plug sparks. When you pulled the plug was it wet at all with gas? Then it probably isn't getting gas right. Just some of the things you could try.

Welcome to Fixya

If you remove any adjusting screws or jets, write down the number of turns it takes for removal and than put each one back the same number of turns. Before removing the carbs, drain them (assuming there is anything in them). Get a spray can of Berrymans carb cleaner (or another brand), and fill the float bowls full of cleaner by disconnecting the fuel lines and spraying into each fuel line until the level in the line is reaching the top of the float bowl. Wait for a couple of days while the cleaner softens the dried varnish residue in the carbs. Now remove the carbs as a set then dis-assemble and clean with a couple more cans of cleaner.

Below is a diagram of your carb. The same diagram with the entire carb assembly AND your entire bike can be found at Babbitt's. Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, the part is not in stock. www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrandand/parts.aspx

I'm pretty sure your Suzuki has running lights on the front...in other words the bulbs are dual filament for the front, with a dimmer running filament and a brighter turn signal filament, and the back are just single filament turn signals.
If you look in the parts list there is one part number for front bulbs, another for rear.

HOW MUCH IS THE AVERAGE COST OT REPAIR LEAKING

The damping oil seals (dust seals) may just be worn and require replacement. If this is the case then £10-£15 for a pair and 2hours work (or £30-£40 for labour and parts if done by a mechanic).

Getting the pilot jets cleaned out is the big trick. If it will not idle, the pilot jet is problem. ------------ The carbs not adjusted properly Synchronizing and balancing the carbs will be a nightmare. I would make a diagram of what hoses attach where and mark each hose. If you remove any adjusting screws or jets, write down the number of turns it takes for removal and than put each one back the same number of turns. Before removing the carbs, drain them (assuming there is anything in them). Now get a spray can of Berrymans carbcleaner (or another brand), and fill the float bowls full of cleaner by disconnecting the fuel lines and spraying into each fuel line until the level in the line is reaching the top of the float bowl. turning the idle screw won't get you to where you want to be. Those carbs are very touchy and need to be balanced but first the valve clearances need to be verified. For idle adjustment screw check fig:-- a4d978d.jpg

Adjust cylinder #3 to best idle. You may have to remove the covers over the idle screws. Drill each carefully with a small diameter bit, and extract by turning a screw a few turns into the hole you bored, and pop it out with a tug on the screw with a pair of pliers.
To ensure that the idle mixture was correct, you can use Colourtune, a sparkplug . You can see the colour of the combustion flame as the plug fires. When you see a bunsen blue flame, the idle is correctly adjusted. If you could not get a blue flame. Then the jets needs to be checked as well. The moral is that tuning by ear gets the best idle, but not necessarily the correct idle.
Once the idle mixture is correct, set the idle speed to high RPM using the adjustment knob located between the airbox and the carburetors. Cylinder #3 should draw about 10 in Hg (24.5 cm Hg). This is your baseline measure. If the motor is not drawing this vacuum, double check that the idle RPM and mixture are correct; a rich cylinder will not create the full vacuum.
Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

My bike shut off on me while i was riding it. I

A sudden shut off can be caused by 2 main reasons: a lack of gas (the main fuel line might be clogged 0 check that the fuel reaches the carbs) or a lack of spark.
To check the origin of the spark problem you must go in reverse: take one spark out of its cylinder, tie it to the frame (make sure it has good electrical contact) and crank the engine - the spark should be clearly visible. If it's not then check the ignition coil - first the high tension then the low one. If you don't  have 12 volts on it then check the ruptor. If you don't have 12 v on the ruptor then check the key contact and finally the fuse box - a rectangular box placed vertically on the gearbox - it has FUSES written on it.
