How do I tighten and

Remove the "inspection cover" in the center of your primary. Using your finger, gauge the up and travel of the upper run of the primary chain. Set it to between 3/4" and 7/8" with the engine cold. Now, with that being said, unless you're used to what you're doing, you'll probably find it pretty difficult to judge this distance and I know of no way to accurately measure and set the tension without taking the outer primary cover off. But, considering the price of a new gasket for the outer primary cover, I'd be willing to settle for a "close" setting. It's not that critical just don't get it too tight or too loose. Someone makes a tool for doing it but I don't remember who it is. To adjust the tension, loosen the nut just inside the inspection cover and move the shoe up to reduce the tension.

Good Luck

LOCAL SHOP SAYS MY STATOR

To check the stator you'll need a DVOM (digital volt ohm meter). Put the meter's function selector switch to OHMS, R X 1 SCALE. Touch the two meter leads together and notice the reading. It should be something like 0.7 ohms or so. Now, touch one lead to the engine and the other lead to either of the two metal contacts in the plug in the engine case. Do not allow that lead to touch the engine case. Your meter should read infinite ohms. Then move that meter lead to the other metal contact again not touching the engine case. You should still read infinite ohms. If your meter reads 0.7 ohms or anything other than infinity on either contact, your stator is shorted to ground. The oil on the plug has nothing to do with this. The plug is made out of a rubber compound like an oil seal. Over the years of heating and cooling the rubber gets brittle and shrinks a bit. Then, the oil in the primary seeps between the plug and the engine case. This is common but it does not effect the operation of the stator. To stop the leak, you usually have to replace the stator.

Good Luck

Blinkers on my 1999 fatboy

No, your bike is equipped with a turn signal cancelling unit instead of the old style flasher. It is usually located underneath the dash and speedometer on the Softail series of bikes. It's a "black box" about 1 1/2" wide X 3" long X 1/2 thick with a large plug on the face on one end and mounting bolt in the center. If you'll contact me directly, I'll send you a trouble shooting guide. [email protected]

I have a 2002 Harley

Well we all know what that HD stands for(HUNDRED DOLLARS) LOL. I am assuming your bike is carburated as after 02 most went to injection. Your fuel filter is part of the intake line to your carb. You may have to remove the tank to get to it. Most harley filters are a heat temperd glass bulb with a filter inside. You said you got gas from a diffrent station, and there could be water in it. Upon inspection of your filter it will be deffinitly noticeable if there is water or moisture in your tank and or filter. I would reccomend getting a new fuel filter and plugs, and along with a bottle of harleys best carb cleaner or moisture remover.Get your self some fresh gas(HIGH OCTAIN) will work best for removing moisture. Drain your tank by removing your fuel line connected to the petcock. After empty remove cap and dump any remaining BS that may be in there. Used compressed air to blow the tank out then let it sit for a few hours to dry out any moisture, Reinstall everything and give it a hell of a ride down the highway. Hope this helps. P.s you may need carb adjustment and new air filter as well.

Need to replace rear wheel

If you are willing to do it Charles Bronson style , all you need is a hammer and skinny flat blade chisel. Most bearings can be tapped out from the opposite side. Put the chisel through the center of the bearing hole, push the bearing spacer off to the side, hook the chisel onto the inner race of the bearing and tap it out the opposite side of the wheel. When the bearing and spacer fall out, flip the wheel over and tap the other bearing out the other side. Now , place the new bearing in the opening and place the old bearing against it lining up the raises. Only tap on the old bearing (the outer race) when pushing in the new bearing. Tap in the new bearing until the old bearing starts to enter the wheel hub. Now you have to carefully seat the bearing by using the chisel only on the outside race, moving the chisel around the circumference of the outer race to evenly push the bearing down. Be very careful not to slip and punch the seal or damage the actual ball bearings. Flip the wheel over , put the spacer back in, and repeat the procedure till the other bearing is seated enough that the spacer can be moved but does not bind the inner races of the bearings. Work carefully and you will have a permanent repair using only a hammer and a chisel.

Tanked up at gas station.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you remove the positive battery connector, let it sit for atleast 5mins. then reconnect it again. The electrical system may have just tripped that's why it's not working. Reconnecting the positive battery connector may solve the issue.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

2000 Fat Boy. 7200 miles.

Has this happened since you had the jet kit installed? it may as simple as adj you float height. when you turn the gas in the float leans to one side or the other if you float is to low it won't allow the bowl to hold enough gas and " starve " the motor for gas for that sec or two till the gas levels itself out.
Can you check the plugs for me and tell me the color, when you down shift and let out the clutch do you hear a popping and cracking while not on the gas? I ask this because you could be running lean as well.
I'm looking forward to hearing back from you the the info I asked for and we will get you running right and fast.
