2002 saturn sl1 camshaft position sensor

I got a diagnostic done on my sat from auto zone and they said its the camshaft position sensor where can i get this fixed and how much will it cost

I have the same problem. The car seemed like it was missing on a cylinder so I checked the plugs and wires and was getting good spark on each one. I took it to a shop to have them check the computer code and it said camshaft sensor. The mechanic told me this car does not have a camshaft sensor and that I needed a new ignition module. Would a faulty ignition module cause a camshaft sensor code to appear and is a camshaft sensor the same as a crankshaft sensor?

Yes, the resistance on cylinder 4 compression fire is what causes the code. It most like is not the module, but rather a bad wire, plug or ground on the module itself. Try changing plus, wires and clean all grounds and contacts on module and coil with steel wool.

I hate to tell you this, but there is not Camshaft Position Sensor on any 1.9L Single or Dual OHC. I assume you had someone read a Diagnostic Trouble Code from your PCM. They probably told you that you needed a Camshaft Position Sensor, and then offered to sell you one. I would recommend changing your spark plugs and your plug cables with FACTORY REPLACEMENTS. This will usually make the DTC go away. Aftermarket plugs and wires rarely work well for this engine. If you are looking for a CRANKSHAFT position sensor, look between the engine and transmission on the back side of the transmission. It is also known as the "transmission input speed sensor". More often than not though, your engine will not fire up if the Crank position sensor is not working. Hope this helps.

I have the same scenario right now (2002 Saturn SL1 with cam pos sensor code and Check Engine light). My mechanic says there is no Cam Pos. Sensor, and suggested I go to a Saturn dealer. I'm going to try the Saturn plugs/wires first however. I'll report back. Danny from Eagan, MN 2/2/11

A Saturn tech informed me that this code can be caused by the corrosion on the bolts that hold the ignition module and coils to the bracket. He said that the module is grounded through these bolts and that removing and cleaning them often fixes the problem.

I'm confused...the dealer says there is no camshaft in a 2002 SL2 Saturn. Yet they sell camshafts for this vehicle online.Which is it??

Yes there is a such thing as a camshaft position sensor, for gods sake they sell the replacement part! It's location is hard to get to as it's located behind the starter, I've replaced two of them so far failing after only about 30k miles use. From what I read Saturn's often have these fail and symptoms are car running until warmed up and then shutting off and not restarting until it cools down again.

These cars do not have a camshaft position sensor. The computer reads the current to fire the spark plugs during the wastes spark cycle and uses that to determine camshaft position. Worn spark plug wires or corroded grounding lug can cause this code to come up

Are you 100% sure of that ? Does a 2002 Saturn L200 have a cam shaft sensor ?

2002 saturn sl1 idle too high

Can be but also check and make sure there are NO vacuum leaks or broken vacuum hoses anywhere on intake. I would also suggest if engine light is on is to take this vehicle to an AUTO ZONE they will check by computer for this problem and let you know for FREE. When you get the code I would be more than glad to help you further. Don't guess you may be wasting money and time. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA
