YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE MINIATURE BULB THAT LITES UP THE DISPLAY, YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE RADIO FROM THE CAR AND THEN REMOVE THE TOP SHEET METAL COVER ON THE RADIO, YOU WILL SEE THE BULB SOCKET PLUGGED INTO THE BACK OF THE DISPLAY.

Idid see a service bulletin concerning radio. sound and display lost after engine crank. turn key off, then back to accessory position, radio functions work. the fix is to reprogram radio with new software. I also saw several codes listed for radio, they were manufacturer specific codes. did you check for codes?
The small display screen is renowned for this fault. Press on the plastic surround/bezel and see if the display shows any sign of life. It appears to be either a soldered joint or circuit board problem. I would doubt that replacing the radio will fix the fault, and at a bet, buying a replacement unit will be expensive and probably only result in the fault returning. Never know - there may be someone who has managed to work out a permanent fix for it...
From the way your post sounds, I'd say the dealership is correct.
You could try aftermarket radio, of course that would mean, remove and install yourself.
There might be a stereo install shop close to you? I guess you could call and get an estimate.
I just looked at crutchfield.com on the internet, they have radios they say will fit your vehicle for 50 bucks or less. I don't about the cost of shipping and handling?
I'm not pushing Crutchfield, I'm sure there are many stereo web sites.
Walmart may have stereos, I don't if they will fit your vehicle? Look around. Get install estimates.
It would not be possible that a detail cleaning would cause that to happen. When you have no display on the screen it is usually the LCD display that has failed. Unfortunately that means a new radio.
kzingraff, I have a similar situation to Craig Waldie. I have a 2005 Durango and the CD player has not worked since I replaced the battery. Just like his 2004, the radio works perfectly, just not able to use the CD player. How can this issue be fixed?
you have to take the radio out t fix this problem i believe its a small led light in the radio , get a small gooseneck map light and face it towards the radio to see the stations cheap fix . when you take out the radio you need the code to get the stations back it has a memory chip in it.mabey this helped
