I have a hyundai elantra gls 2.0L, I have a miss fire in cylinders 1 and 2, I have replaced coil pack, plugs, wires, fuel injectors, problem is worse., brought car to shop and ran compresion test-ok, smoke test for leaks-ok, check spark-ok. im stuck now, shop doesnt know problem and I dont either.. please help..gary

Yes it does. A fuel injector is a device that atomizes and then delivers the fuel into the cylinder just before the piston squeezes the fuel and air mixture and the spark from the spark plug fires. Ergo your 2000 Hyundai Elantra being a 4 cylinder vehicle, has 4 fuel injectors.

Sounds like it's either a coil pack or an injector to me, try switching the number four coil pack with any of the other coil packs if the miss follows the coil pack you need to replace that coil pack. if not it's either a fuel injector or a mechanical problem inside the motor, I would rent noid lights from a local auto parts store and look for injector pulse in the cylinder with a misfire, if the noid light is flashing it may be better to leave it to a professional as it is likely internal engine damage. hope that helps. chris

Being you have a heavy gas smell I would look into the injectors. If injector #1 is over producing it can cause a misfire. Test your compression and fuel pressure.

check valve adjustment on #5, is cam lobe worn?

Is your check engine light on? I have the same probelm with my 2002 Elantra. I think it may be connected to the O2 sensor with regulates the emissions, and can cause poor fuel economy. I know I need to get it fixed, but am waiting for funds to do so. Does it seem worse after you fill it with gas? I am just curious since that is what mine does.
