CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, AUTO ZONE SAYS COOLING FAN SHORTAGE

My check engine light came on and when I had it checked, the Autozone computer said I had a cooling fan shortage. My car does not heat up unless I'm sitting still.

Also, starting at the same time. My air conditioner is acting funny but only when sitting still. As long as I'm moving, the air conditioner blows cold air but when I'm sitting still, it blows hot air.

I had a similar problem with my 04 LS Sport Coupe. The check engine light came on, took it to Advance Auto Parts and they ran it on their computer and it came up as some kind of coolant sensor. My air conditioning also has been acting funny. Never really thought there was a connection between the two tho. I may try to replace the coolant temp sensor and see what that does.

I too have the same problem, when I idle the temp goes up and the cooling quits. I checked it out today and had a 30 amp fuse blown for the cooling fan. Replaced it and it blew again in about 10 seconds. What else could be causing it to blow? The relay or sensor? Help please

If the fuse is blowing there is too much resistance in the cooling fan moter. Replace JUST the cooling fan motor and the fuse. The A/C always turns the cooling fan ON when turned on. That is why the A/C messes up when the fan motor is bad. Replace the fan motor and the A/C problem will be fixed too. :)

Hi,they may be wrigt ,but you can replace the temperature suitch at the cilinder head ,this is the one that sends the signal to the fan relay when the engine begins to heat up and that will start the fan. good luck.......

Fan will not run when hot

Check fan relay. Remove passenger headlight, cut plastic to find relay. Replaced mine last night. Radiator fan spinning again. Was having temp spikes at start up and idling. Also bought coolant temp sensor but have not installed. Before I replaced fan relay, check engine light wasn't on. Now that the new relay is installed, light came on. Autozone and Discount Auto have an OBDII sensor you can borrow for free to read the codes stored on computer. Codes are generally stored when the check engine light comes on. Getting minr checked today. Will update solution later if needed. Relay was $55.

SOUND LIKE ENGINE OVERHEATING,CHECK COOLANT LEVEL MAKE SURE YOUR RADIATOR FULL OF ANTIFREEZE.IF YOUR COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG IS EMPTY COOLANT LEVEL IS LOW.NEED ADD MORE COOLANT TO OVERFLOW UNTIL COOLANT STAY AT FULL COLD MARK. DONT OVER FILL COOLANT OVER FLOW JUG.IF COOLANT OKAY ENGINE OVERHEATING REPLACE THERMOSTAT.MAKE SURE ENGINE COOLING FAN IS WORKING IF YOU COME TO A STOP CAR SITS FOR A LITTLE WHILE START OVERHEATING THE COOLING FAN NOT TURNING ON , BECAUSE COOLANT FAN FUSE BLOWED OR YOU HAVE BAD RELAY,THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY.IF YOU HAVE THE CLUTCH TYPE COOLING FAN, MAKE SURE WHEN TURNING CLUTCH FAN WITH HAND COOLING FAN SHOULD HAVE RESISTANCE WHEN HOT.IF CLUTCH FAN FEEL WOBBLY AND LOOSE REPLACE IT.TAKE VECHICLE TO AUTO ZONE OR ADVANCE AUTO PARTS OR ANY AUTO PARTS STORES THEY WILL CODE SCAN CAR FREE AND GIVE YOU THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TROUBLE CODE TO SEE WHAT CAUSING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO TURN ON.

2001 buick lesabre is running slightly hot. i just replaced the thermostat and 2 elbow joints (sorry dont know what their called) and did a complete flush about a month ago

replacing the thermostat is exactly what i would have suggested for your vehicle for the overheating issue. try this, with the engine running at operating temperature, check to insure that the cooling fans coming on when the engines gaining temperature. your cooling fan may be going bad and not coming on when needed,in this case it may be a bad cooling fan sensor,or just a bad cooling fan altogether.with the engine running after you've driven the car until it gets warm, open the hood and look visually at the cooling fan to insure it's running{the engine fan} in front of your radiator. if it's not running {fan} check in the main fuse box under the hood for a bad engine fan relay 1st if no bad relay, then check for a bad engine fan motor.with the key switch in "off"position try to spin the engine fan manually by hand. if it does spin by hand it still may be a bad fan motor. or bad fan sensor.do you have a check engine light on? if so you can have it code read at any auto zone or advance auto for free.this may be of great assistance to you if the check engine light is on. hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com

Check engine light came on on the way home tonight . all fluids are good belts and plugs change a few months ago . ?????

I would take your car to autozone, the computer detected a fault in the emission control system, autozone can scan your computer for trouble codes, they do this procedure for free, once you know the trouble code you can get a better handle on the problem and start a more accurate diagnosis....

How do you reset the engine light

Take your vehicle to Autozone, Advance, etc...
Have them read ALL of the fault codes. Note: This is a free service.
Keep a record of the faults. The Check Engine Light only comes on after a series of faults continue to send information to the computer.
After reading your codes, the technician can erase the fault codes.

Unless the problems sending information to the computer are resolved, the check engine light will eventually reset.

Please let me know if this helps or how I may assist further.

EPC, Electronic Stability, Check Engine light

do they stay on longer than a few seconds?
If so, could be a relay, wiring shortage....take it to your local autozone or auto store, normally they will scan your OBD II and see what the codes are...for free....that will help you determine why the check engine light is on.

Cooling Fan Fuse

Sounds like a short in the wiring, or a bad fan motor drawing too much current. Check the wiring for shorts, if none are found, replace the fan motor.
