Ford Focus vibration from the front end 50-70mph

I have a 2000 Ford Focus, when accelerating between 50 and 70 mph I get a lot of vibration from the front end but not much through the steering whell but you can feel it through the pedals mostly. I don't think it is balancing or shocks as it seems to go away post 70mp???

Thanks, it has helped a bit but still get the vibration. Though I have noticed it is only when I accelerate. All the vibration is coming through the pedals and you can feel it in the seat too, yet the wheel stays steady throughout.

I have a 2001 Ford Focus ZTS and have the same problem. I've had the tires balanced and rotated appropriately but still have vibration. 60 mph steady is where I notice it the most.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. It ended up being the front drive
shafts, the bearing on the larger of the two was mostly knackered both
were replaced late October and the vibration has completley gone!! For
a 2001 ford Focus it was about £320 including fitting.

I have a 2002 Ford Focus. When reaching speeds between about 60-70 mph., there is a vibration in the front end. It can be felt in the wheel as well as the floor and seat. If you look closely, you can see a vibration in the hood also. The vibration seems to come and go. Meaning you can feel it coming and then it will lessen but not go away completely. The cycle then repeats itself.

I recently replaced the double drive shaft (passenger side) and the problem seems to be better.

Had exactly same problem except on overrun at any speed the vibration stopped. It was the driver side drive shaft. the only evidence was about 1mm of side movement in the joint. No other tale tale signs eg knocking on turning. If you change it yourself I paid £97 and changed it in an hour.

I am betting on a tire balance. I have had tires out that only vibrate at 60; they were pretty smooth at 75.

Next thing I would check is the motor mounts.

Could be alot of things from tyres to warped break disks to alignment to balancing. If you half press the breakes when you are going 70 and you can feel major vibes thru the stearing wheel, its disks. The rest is easy - take it to alighnment center, they dfo tires and balancing too. Make sure wheels are properly inflated too

All are possible here :front stabilizer links if weak will change spindle and strut angle and wheel alignment settings and push the drive drive axles out and in causing cv joint wear / transmission mount looks good but broken causing transmission to slam metal to metal causing vibration through whole vehicle from lack of hard rubber damping also pushing on axles /conto arm bushings can be cracked allowing the arms to make comtact with the bushing casing and bolts /inner and outer tie rods will change wheel settings and cause wobbling as will any of the above cause wobble at road speeds because it is changing the alignment settings while driving /also a broken steel belt and a slightly bent rim this site is problematic for posting answers if you need more info try posting in cents and I will get back to you there's more info to tell good luck stephen

It sounds like one or both of your CV joints in the drive shaft.
Take it to a specialised CV shaft repairer. It should only take a few minutes to check on a hoist and they would not normally charge for the check.

Your front end needs to be alinged. If you will look at your front tires you will see that one side is worn on the inside more than the other. If by chance that's not it. Then it will be a balljoint lose

It is a bad halfshaft, I think.

Front end wheel vibration between 20 - 30 MPH

May be a rim, a worn ball joint or tie rod end. Could also be a worn inner CV joint binding.

Have your Mechanic check the steering tie rod bushings, and linkage. Sometimes it's just an adjustment to the steering box play(located at the end of the steering wheel shaft), - easy to fix.

Hello, I see you may a lot of changes and replaced a lot of parts. We leased an Explorer the same Year as yours. In our case there was a slight noise as well as vibration. The problem was the Front Hub bearings, They were bad at 18000 miles.

There are a few things I want to suggest. The spinning of the wheels on the lift will not load the bearings. A Dyno table can get everything turning with a load on it. As your vehicle is a 4x4, most Dyno's were 2 wheelers. You would have to call to find one for a 4x4.

Next, if the new Hubs do not help, have a look at the rotors. They are also balanced. You can spin balance the Wheel and rotor as a unit with a floor motor. It's not the best way to Balance because tire rotation or even shifting the Wheel on the lugs will UNbalance it. But this method CAN pinpoint a problem if a Balanced tire does not spin true when bolted to the vehicle. You will know the Rotor is off-balance and which axle is causing the problem.

Would be interested to see a Post of what you found.

Front End shaking

Most likely with this problem is the front tires. The tires maybe " out of balance " or " out of round " causing the vibration at certain speeds.

Hope I can help...but you have conflicting symptoms. IE... front end vibration but no shimmy in steering wheel?
Let me tell you this: If you feel the vibration when cruising(no brake & not accellerating) @ 60-70 mph; then 95% of the time it is in the tire/wheel/balance combination. (I know you said they were new but could still be out-of-round)
