Here is how this works. A coolant sensor triggers the "cold start" sequence which raises engine idle, enriches the fuel ratio, and makes a few other adjustments. When problems like yours occurs it means the engine is stuck in warm mode or the engine controls are ignoring the signal to reset. The cheaper part is the coolant sensor.

SOURCE: F250 Ford 7.3 L Powerstroke Hard to Start Cold

I have a 2000 F250 with Powerstroke and my buddy has a 02 with same engine. Both of us have had the same problem. There are two coils (look like starter coils) on top of the engine that can be seen from the passenger side of the truck. The shorter of the two, has to do with supplying voltage to the glow plugs. When this coil gets older, it breaks down causing a higher resistance in the circuit. Which reduces the volts that the glow plugs see. In turn resembles a problem with the plugs. My buddy and I changed the coils and both trucks start like new. The part cost $80-$90. and can be changed in less than 5 minutes. Glow plugs are a lot bigger job and more expensive.

Check the connections under the FICM. (fuel injection control module) It is on top of the left valve cover. It is the big silver flat box. There is 3 connectors underneath that should be "clicked" onto the module. Do this with the key off as there is a very high voltage there.

SOURCE: 1999 Ford truck 7.3 diesel, hard to start in the

if it is not getting power to the plugs witch it most likely isnt check your selinoids they are located on the top of the engine check and see if power is getting there and if that is all fine then you may be low on compression you can check this with no tools for blow by. when engine is running remove oil filler cap and look for puffs of white smoke if it is a consistant slight haze or little smoke that is normal but if it is poring smoke and puffing then you have one or more pistons or rings hurt. any more than a little stream of smoke is a culprit of worn out engine and needs rebuild. and if that is fine you may want to check your high pressure oil as that operates the injectors and is vary thick when cold you can also change this by taking an alen key and removing the small cap on top of the hpop (high pressure oil pump) resevior and sucking the old oil out with a seringe or another type of evacuator. then replace oil with new oil (same as what you use for engine) and then start engine run for about five minutes and do it again about three or four times. there is 3 qourts on the top of engine that run through the heads and HPOP system from navistar it was supposed to cycle throgh the bottom end oil but it never really does thats why when you change your oil and check it right after you start truck it is black again. i have more remidies but not to much more space message back if needed

2010 ford escape by hard to start in the morning. I changed the fuel pump driver module. Still hard to start in the morning. Once its warm up it starts normal.

With what you've provided, it could be any number of issues. Just guessing from the year and make it'll need a good tune up if you've never done one before.

Start simple and and begin with replacing the plugs and wires...sometimes this can be the difference between night and day! And although some may say otherwise, depending on where you get your fuel you may want to change the fuel filter if the problem persists.

Ford escort 1.8 diesel ran dry. Put in diesel tow it to start drive 120 km. Switch of next morning just turn over not starting. When tow it starts and drive well. Standing overnight no start

sounds like you might have air getting into the fuel system. Or a fuel check valve leaking, letting the pressure escape. Make sure filters are full.

Ford ikon 1.8 is not starting every day morning

what are the symptoms, dead battery, do you need to jump it to start, did you drive at night the day before?, check your charging system, mast be over 13.5 volts, over 25 amps charge, check you battery CCA, cold cranking apps, over 400 amps, finally check the starter for power signal, check the solenoid, if you suspect the starter replace it. but first check you battery terminals, make sure the are tied, clean and making good contact. my money is on the starter.
