INTERMITTENT BATTERY DRAINS ARE HARD TO FIND. TURN OFF ALL SWITCHES IN THE VEHICLE. MAKE SURE THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT LITE IS GOING OUT. OPEN THE HOOD. CLOSE ALL THE DOORS. MAKE SURE ALL OF THE COURTESY LITES ARE GOING OFF. DISABLE ANY UNDER THE HOOD LIGHTS. REMOVE THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. USE A 12 VOLT TEST LIGHT, FASTEN ONE END TO A GOOD GROUND, { METAL PART OF THE MOTOR} . FASTEN THE OTHER END TO THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF THE BATTERY. IF THE TEST LIGHT LIGHTS UP THERE IS A BATTERY DRAIN. IF NO LIGHT , NO DRAIN. IF THE LIGHT IS ON LOOK IN THE FUSE/RELAY BOX NEAR THE BATTERY. PULLOUT THE FUSES, LARGE & SMALL ONE AT A TIME, IF THE LIGHT STAYS ON PUT THE FUSE BACK IN TRY THE NEXT FUSE. WHEN THE LIGHT GOES OUT, THAT IS THE CIRCUIT CAUSING THE DRAIN. IF IT NEVER GOES OUT, DISCONNECT THE ALTERNATOR. IF THAT MAKES THE LIGHT GO OUT, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ALTERNATOR. IF THE LIGHT IS NEVER ON, YOU MAY HAVE TO DO THIS ANOTHER DAY TO FIND THE DRAIN. ALSO HAVE THE NEW BATTERY RECHECKED.

Is not just that it killed the battery but now the engine misfired and ran rough for a while, it seems fine now but there is a problem, sensor?????

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2011

THE PROBLEM WITH THE SENSOR MAY HAVE TO BE SOLVED AT A SMOG SHOP WITH THEIR DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE

Why is battery draining ford 2002 Taurus SES

Remove negative cable from battery, connect a test light to negative terminal, opposite end off light to negative battery post. ( let sit for 3 to 5 minutes). Then start pulling fuses, when the light goes out that's your bad circuit. God-Bless! Its worth a try.

Battery clicking no start

You are right to suspect the battery if the weather is hot and the battery is a few years old. You probably have a dead cell and that will prevent you from jump-starting it.
It takes at least 10.5 volts to engage the starter.
You could disconnect the battery and charge it overnight then check the voltage, but I would lean toward a dead battery from old age and heat.
Make sure the connections on the posts are clean before you take the battery out. Could be some hidden corrosion.

2001 nissan pathfinder. seems electronic. first seemed dead battery, put in new battery. fine for couple of days. then dashboard warning signals, oil, battery, brakes, and airbag, start going on. then...

Have your alternator checked. Most auto supply places do this at no charge. Multiple dashboard warning lights usually indicate alternator problems.

Clicking starter=car not starting

the battery is located under the rear seat, check battery connections. if connections are tight replace starter.

2008 Jeep Liberty-Dead battery issues w/ a new battery

Unit has a draw somewhere that needs to be addressed. I have found the auto starts sometimes can cause this. But if the draw is through the negative side it could be tough. You should take it to the dealer and have them perform a draw test on the entire vehicle.

Brand new 08 Ford Sport Trac (2 hr old) - won't start

Sounds like the battery may be bad. You could remove it and take it to a mechanic or parts store and have them test it for you. Mechanic might charge you 15bucks or so. Most parts stores will test it for free and gladly sell you a new one.

1988 Nissan Pathfinder

I had a 1994 pathfinder with the same problem. Direct wire the load pin on the starter solenoid to the positive terminal on the battery with a push-button switch between and mount it on the dash of the car. You will also need to disconnect the existing wire on the load pin of the solenoid and tape it up. This will allow you to engage the starter without the key using the push button, however, you will still need to crank the key to the start position while turning the motor over to give you fuel pressure.

Maybe a temporary solution for you but its worked on my pathfinder for more than 2 years.
