Saturn sl2 sputters when i accelerate and check engine light came on when i kicked it down into passing gear,seems to idle a little low now seems to be getting worse

Bad gas. One of the many sensors on the engine could be failing, or has failed. Bad spark plug wires. Bad spark plugs. Any of several other undetermined reasons.

At 150000 miles the plugs start to fail under hard acceleration the higher compression blows out the spark before it ignites the fuel. Random cylinder misfire causes the check engine light to come on. change the plugs!

SOUND LIKE LEAN FUEL SYSTEM.WEAK FUEL PUMP STOP UP AIR FILTER AND FUEL FILTER. DIRTY FUEL INJECTORS.

bad idle air control valve or a misfire,could be alot need more info

replace tranny filter and fluid, do not do tranny flush, could cause more problem. just filter and fluid change

Possible blown head gasket. Big problem . Have that checked immediately by a engine coolant pressure leak-down test. You can lose your engine and pronto! Small amount of coolant possible passing into crankcase or/and the cylinders.

the check engine light means that a code has been set. the code will reference a faulty system that must be diagnosed and repaired. sorry for the vagueness, but there are e gads of codes that can cause the rough idling

most aftermarket parts places will scan the car for free. this will give you an idea of where to start.

It sounds like you may have a problem feeding the fuel to your engine, I had the same problem with my 89 RS. All the 1989 model's fuel systems were recalled. I think you may need a new fuel pump. The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank in the rear of the car right under the rear axle. The fuel pump itself isn't too expensive, but with other small parts such as the electrical harness upgrade and fuel filter and the labor you should be looking somewhere in the $500 range. Engine vibration is the cause of this issue, it is the biggest complaint from many owners, changing the engine mounts will help, as mounts age the rubber gets hard and they don't absorb vibration like they should, new mounts help issue, but it will no stop it altogether. A faulty MAF will not cause vibration, just a hesitation on acceleration at times
