2005 ION: I have a 2005 Saturan Ion, the Power Steering lite...

I have a 2005 Saturan Ion the Power Steering lite came on. It went off but for a moment it was harder to steer the car. At this time the lite is'nt on and the steering seems to be ok. Was that a sign of something needing to be replaced. I believe this vehicle may have a electronic power steering system. What should I do. Thanks vcr

Suggest you check the power steering fluid level. May be running low. Prolonged operation at low level can damage the unit.

SOURCE: Power Steering

Has anyone gave Saturn any hard time over this power steering issue yet? Looks to me like this is a very WELL KNOWN problem for Saturn's but nothing's been done to solve it. Even newer Saturns have this problem, especially just when the car's out of the lousy warranty that we have. Someone's got to take action, may be a sour law suit would do the job.

I have a 2003 Saturn ion-3. Last year the power steering went out and the shop had me replace the steering rack for $1100. Recently it has gone out again, what else might be the problem?

My power steering went out on a 2007 ion. I took it to a GM dealership with Goodwrench service repair. There was a recall & they fixed it FREE. I haven't had a problem since. That was oct 2011.

Power steering

I used to own a 2005 Cobalt SS supercharged, basicaly the same thing as an Ion Redline. I know that on my car, there is an electric power steering pump, rather than a belt driven. If you have to same system, there may be an electrical problem causing the power steering to stop working and start again after turning off and starting the car again. If you are still under warenty, I would recomend taking your car to the dealership.
