Replacing leaking transmission cooler lines under front bumper

I got one great answer already but we are ignorant when it comes to repairing vehicles that I need to know how exactly to replace the leaking transmission fluid lines that run from the tranny to the cooler under the front bumper on my Ford Windstar, they're leaking fluid and it's collecting under the front undercarriage (?) of my van so that its leaking all across the front bumper. My first expert said to use fuel injector line and hose clamps but I don't know how to do that? I was told these lines are under pressure and it scares me a bit< will the fluid come spraying out when we cut the lines? and how do you put the pressure back into them? I know I sound reallyu stupid but well......I am, lol! Thanks, Lorelei

There is no pressure when the engine is off. You don't have to do anything as far as putting pressure back in other than starting the engine.
Not knowing whats leaking and if its actually the lines then go get a replacement either at the parts house or the dealer.

!!! Why mickey mouse it. ???

Transmission fluid leaking for front bumper 2002 jeep grand cherokee

most likely it is leaking where it connect to the Trans cooler behind the front grill. If the trans lines use clamps you will most likely just need to tighten them up. If it uses quick disconnect fittings you will need to buy a set of quick disconnect tools about 10$ at auto parts store pull the leaking line off and replace the seal inside the line. Good Luck I hope that helps.

I have a 95 mercury sable 3.8 liter and when I drive for too long in warm weather, it leaks tranny fluid

This is an interesting one. Where is the transmission fluid leaking from? If it is coming out of the transmission where it meets the engine, then you are looking at replacing the front transmission seal, and to do this you will need to pull the transmission. If it is not leaking at this spot, then you are looking at a line leak, and will need to replace the bad line. There are going to be two lines for the transmission, make sure that yoyu inspect each one of them thoroughly/ They are the usual culprit when a transmission starts to leak.

Transmission oil (little) leaking - Chrysler Sebring 2002. We park the car for the night and leave in the morning. Realized that some transmission oil is coming out of the car. Question - if leaking is...

Hi!!
First you got to pinpoint where the leak is coming from. Place a couple of sheets of newspaper under vehicle, wait 30 min. to an hour and look under the vehicle at the newspaper sheets, where you see transmission fluid, look up, that's where the leak is.
The most common places where the transmission leaks are:
  • Transmission fluid pan,
  • transmission cooling lines (there are 2 steel lines that carry fluid to a cooler coil in front of the radiator and back.) due to the location, going over a bump or a rock may kink, bend or puncture one of the lines.
  • Transmission front or rear seals.
You are talking about a tube, I assume you are referring to one of the cooling lines. If it is leaking at one of the terminals, usually at the transmission fluid cooler in front of the radiator, some times just tightening a little will take care of the problem. If the line is punctured, remove the line and take it to a hardware store like ACE Hardware or similar to have them install a pressure fitting. If you are to DIY, no need to remove the line. It can be done from under the vehicle. Either way, the cost of the repair will be about $10. If you take it to a Shop, God knows how much it'll be!!
Have a Merry Christmas!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

My hyundai Santa fe is leaking transmission fluid somewhere at the front of the engine. I can't see it because of the skid plate. Any ideas of what it could be?

Good Evening. Unfortuantely there is no easy path to a right answer here without removing the skid plate. In front of the engine are transmission cooler lines and other miscellania. The best advice i could give you is take down the skid plate and have a can of brake cleaner handy to clean everything off while you have it turned off then have someone turn it on for you so you can visually see where it is coming from. Hope this helps and if you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Transmission cooler lines leaking

2 fixes here, either replace the lines, or find the one or both that are leaking and cut them and connect them back together with gas line hose the same diameter as line with hose clamps. Cheap fix and it works.
