Honda 1998 CRV is at 100,000 what servicing should I get?

My Honda 1998 CRV had a 60,000 mile tune up which was costly 2 years ago. I haven't been back to get it serviced since. I've added oil but that's all. Now it's running a little sluggish. I know I need a oil change but what else should I do to get it running and up to speed?

THIS ENGINE ONLY NEEDS A TUNE EVERY 100,000 MILES, SO WHAT DID THEY DO AT 60,000?

IF IT IS SLUGGISH IT IS BECAUSE THE ENGINE IS WEARING OUT, ALSO HAS THE TIMING BELT BEEN DONE? IT IS DUE. DONOT FAIL TO CHANGE THIS BELT, IF U HAVE IT FAIL FROM WEAR U WILL BADLY DAMAGE THE ENGINE.

It was a major tune up ... per the Honda's manuel. Oh yes Mel Rapton Honda gave me a trouble too. I remember paying a lot of money for the work that they done. Close to $1,000.00 And I only went in for a Smog Check. After they finished the job I went to a certify place got the smog check. The smog check techician noticed something bent on my radiator...so I had to go back to the dealer. I had to call the bureau of consumer affairs to settled the matter. I don't go to Mel Rapton Honda any longer.

U STILL HAVE NOT ANSWERED MY QUESTIONS. I AM IN THE BAY AREA AS WELL, CONCORD.

  • Anonymous May 19, 2010

I had the timing belt replaced with I had the 60,000 maintenance. I don't need any further information as the honda dealer told me just a oil change and regular check points are needed at this time.

well you got taken on the timing belt, this year doesn't need a new belt until 105,000 miles, have the manual on PDF.

  • timing belt, waterpump, timing belt tensioner, check head gasket, check and calibrate valve lash... intake side should be .08 .10ish, exhaust .13 .15ish... i'd flush transmission fluid too and make sure you use honda stuff... plenty of others things to do if you wanna give her love...may wanna flush all gear oil - especially 4wd one... i am giving one some love right now and found this q and a. :)

What is the cost for a tune up

Cars don't require a tune up like they did 20 yrs ago. There is a list of recommended service items found in the owners manual for mileage intervals.
At 100k I would say the filters and spark plugs should be replaced, along with the trans fluid and several things inspected. Prices would vary depending on where you live, so check with some local shops.

I don't know where the plugs are in my towncar. 4.6 2001. I have a miss in the motor . I have not had it tuned up as they say you can go 100.000 . I have 93,000. Or should I take it to the shop?

No where does it say you can go 100,000 miles on any product

Spark Plugs ---get changed at 60,000 miles & not over 3 years
O2 Sensor--- the front ones only-- get changed at 100,000 miles
Trans & Power Steering Fluids --- get changed on ALL Vehicles
every 30,000 miles NEVER over 3 years ( ever )
Brake Fluid --ALL Vehicles every 2 years

No such thing as a tune- up (spark plugs --only)
Computers have done the tuning since 1980 some 32
model years

Plugs are under the COP Ignition Coils
Remove Coils,then Plugs

I need a serpentine belt diagram for a 2003 honda crv

  1. Many owner-reviewers on the Edmunds automotive website gave the CR-V a reliability rating of 1 to 5 out of of 10, citing the vehicle's expensive maintenance after passing 75,000 miles. On the AutoBeef website, owners who reviewed the vehicle reported a variety of AC and heater, electrical, engine, suspension and transmission problems to be the main issues of the vehicle, with other problems reported.
  2. AC and Heater Problems
  3. The most numerous issue faced by CR-V owners, air conditioning and heater problems plague even low-mileage CR-Vs. Most owners report an end blowing off the AC compressor, at an average of 76,900 miles. Repairs cost an average of $2,660, but in some cases cost as much as $3,700.
  4. Electrical Problems
  5. CR-V owners also cite electrical problems, prominently to locking and window mechanisms and interior accessories. Reported everywhere from 45,000 miles to over 100,000 miles, owners say that the doors won't unlock with the factory remote, the keys won't unlock the car, and that cigarette lighters and window buttons fail. Average repair cost per issue came out to $250.
  6. Engine Problems
  7. Owners report irregular idle patterns, catalytic converter failure, oxygen sensor failure and excessive engine oil use in CR-V engines. Occurring under or around 100,000 miles, these problems average roughly $2,500 to correct.
  8. Suspension Problems
  9. The two most common suspension problems are cracked ball joints and misaligned struts, which can cause the vehicle to pull to one side. Most problems occurred between 60,000 and 100,000 miles, and cost $300 or more on average to repair.
