Emission control light on

I had my car serviced for an oil leak 3 days ago and my oil filter housing adapter gasket was replaced. It fixed the leak and drove fine for 3 days. I started it this morning and the Emission control light was on. I attempted to drive it but it has no power and has difficulty changing gears so something is clearly wrong. Could this be related to the oil leak repair? What kind of malfunction could have caused this out of the blue? No prior symptoms?

SOURCE: 1999 Cadillac coolant leak, can not find

ok...here is my experience with our 1999 Deville. We had the same problem with ours almost 8 months until we had the coolant flushed and filled. That is when our problem reared its ugly head. As you probably already know, this Northstar engine does have well known issues with head gasket failure as well as head bolt issues and last but not least, thermostat problems. If you haven't had an "official" overheat ( not just the coolant low light, but a true blue overheat where car has safety to shut down or run on half the cylinders) you should be fine and your engine healthy enough to repair.

I would dare say it is your head gasket. The first thing you should do is pressure test your sytem, this will diagnose whether or not it is infact your head gasket. It could also be a head bolt(s) that pull from the block when car gets too hot. If either of these things are the problem, be prepared for the investment and be sure that whoever does the work on your engine knows how to diagnose whether your engine is good enough to repair. Cadillac service bulletins instruct dealerships to replace the engine in this case, but you can repair an engine that is healthy enough. It is costly and you must love your car, but if the love is TRUE, you will love it more when it is repaired.

You did mention that the oil is fine...I know you wereprobably looking for coolant.....when these head gaskets go, the coolant doesnt necessarily mix with the oil, in fact, we didnt have that problem at all. Our coolant was shooting out the tailpipe and evaporating. You could probably check your spark plugs for coolant residue, but you would have to be sure to check them all, because you will probably have the problem in only 1 cylinder. The best way to get a yes or no is the pressure test. Good Luck!

SOURCE: 1979 cad fleetwood brougham knocking sound from, engine

Sometimes collapsed lifters or loose rocker arms can cause knocking sounds in an engine. However, the fact that there was a possible loss of oil pressure and that the knocking gets louder as the rpm's increase, would indicate that there is damage to a connecting rod bearing and possibly the crankshaft. If the latter is the case you are looking at a fairly substantial repair bill.

SOURCE: have 96 seville service emission system is displaying,

Turn your key to the On position ( don't start it ) now, on your heat/air panel, press and hold the OFF and the WARMER (red) buttons at the same time for about 8sec. You will see your dash light up with every segment lit, you can let go when it starts. Then you computer will run its diagnostic check for error codes. Have a pen and paper ready to copy them down. As a guess, I bet it's going to throw a O2 sensor code. Let me know the codes. After that just turn your key off and your done with that portion.

SOURCE: 1997 cadillac deville- misfires on cylinder #1

It sure is. If a plug is truly wet, the energy for the spark will travel through the moisture, rather than across the gap. The fuel air mixture flowing into and out of the cylinder serves to ventilate the cylinder, drying the plug.

Plus, that air is preheated, so that would accelerate the drying once warming up got underway.

You really need to have that head gasket replaced. If this questionable repair gives way (and it almost certainly will), you can get enough water in the cylinder to start breaking things on startup without any warning.

it could be a simple replacement of the oil filter, remove the extra oil filter gasket left on when the filter was changed
excessive tightening of the filter
or replacement of the gasket for the housing mount
until you know exactly what is causing the leak , the cost cannot be calculated

How to change the gasket on the oil filter adapter

Easy fix I just did. (replacing the oil filter adapter gasket which is a common leak). Remove the air cleaner tube and housing. Release the tension on the belt. Remove the two front bolts on the air compressor. They are nuts but the stud will come out too which is fine. Under the car loosen the third air compressor bolt. This will give you enough room to loosen the hidden bolt on the oil filter adapter. It only needs to be loosened as the adapter is slotted there. Remove the other two bolts on the oil filter adapter and remove. Replace the gasket and install.

Oil pump?

Your filter is leaking, check it out.

Turned on 2009 altima was flashing oil pressure then oil fillter flashing warning had oil and filter changed 3 days ago ck oil it was fine turned off car what may be the problrm

sometimes the service technician fails to remove the old oil filter gasket. This causes a leak at the oil filter. This would cause a leak which would lead to low oil pressure and loss of oil. You would have to remove the oil filter and check for an extra gasket. Or perhaps the oil filter was never tightened. If you find one then just remove it and re-install oil filter. You will, however, leak a couple cups of oil so have a drip pan ready. You may have damaged your engine if you ran with no/low oil pressure for any length of time.

I have a 2001 BMW 330Ci..It has been dripping oil for about six months now. Several mechanics have had trouble locating the source of the leak. My oil engine light comes on for 30 seconds every time I...

Dear,
Check th below:
1)Check if the torx screw -(it's a screw that allow you to drop out the Engine oil)- is not dripping out any oil.
2) check if the crank shaft sealing is ok.
3) check if the oil pan is cracked or not (especially if you made any accident).
4) check if the oil filter is mounted properly and sealed very well.
5) if the oil is not dipping out of your car but it disappear after short period that means that your engine rings should be replaced or the engine needs an overhaul.

Oil leak from oil filter

There is an "O" ring between the Oil filter housing and the adapter that will leak as well. Remove the oil filter and check inside of the housing for a large nut. Remove the nut and separate the adapter from the housing. Check the "o" ring between them and replace with new "o" ring. That's where mine is leaking and I've read a couple of others that had the same problem. The old ring started out "round" and has, over time, become flat. The new ring should start out with a flatter cross section that will seal better. Good luck! (Easy Fix, but finding the "o" ring may be a challenge. Check for the ring at the Honda Dealer as the Passport is the same basic vehicle.) Do it during the next oil change........

Oil leaks from the oil filter adapter

If it is not the suggested gasket that is leaking then it is the oil pressure switch located exactly above the oil filter adapter. The black plastic housing could have developed a crack and oil will ooze downward and drip off the bottom of the adapter. I had this problem and changing the oil pressure switch took care of it.
