Fuel level sensor is part of the fule pump assembly. code is telling you sensor is malfuctioning. do gauges work? if yes i would leave problem alone till you need a fuel pump
Testimonial: "Thank you. I replaced the sensor and apparently this is still a problem. "
I had a PO463 code on my '06 Jeep Cherokee. The gas gauge went from full to empty and low fuel light along with the check engine light came on when I started the car. Instead of rushing to have it fixed I filled the car and set my trip meter to zero. After about a week I noticed that the gauge would stay at a certain level before going to full and then drop to empty. This morning the gauge stayed at the 1/2 mark but the check engine light was on. I filled the car with gas and when I started the car the gauge read full and the light was off. I drove about 20 miles with no more problems. What happened? We had a temp of below zero weather for a few days, which isn't normal for my area, and I think water in the fuel froze on the level switch and then after several days it thawed. Saved myself 6-800 dollars waiting a while.
If you live in a cold weather area, below zero, water in the fuel can freeze and cause the fuel level sensor to send a false signal or no signal. I fiiled the car, set my trip miles and waited for warmer weather. I got to about a half tank, according to the trip miles, and filled the tank again. Fuel gauge read correctly, the check engine light went off. All is good. Saved me 6-800 dollars for a replacement of the level sensor.

SOURCE: po463 fuel level sensor circuit voltage too high. how to fix
Hello. There are several possible causes of your issue. Replacing parts to find the root cause is an expensive route for you. Why not drive to an AAMCO and have them give you the free computer scan which may pinpoint the issue. On the otherhand, nothing may show up. To prevent running out of fuel be sure to maintain a log of fuel use. Good luck. Joe
