Could you tell me where I can find a manual or some sort of schematic that will help me know how to replace a crankshaft position sensor on a 2005 Kia Sedona. Or Step by step directions would be even better. I am very mechanically inclined but dont know enough about the engine in my wifes Sedona to know where to start and the shop says they would have to take off the front of the engine to the tune of $1200. Any help would be appreciated.
The CPS is located under the timming cover 4 small bolts remove the cover and the sensor is viewable 2 bolts have to be loosend and the wire leads up to a dual connector on the left side of the engine
The crankshaft position sensor for that car is located on top of transmission housing close to engine block.
just diconnect the plug connector and use 10 mm socket or spanner to take off the sensor bolt, if you want use torque wrench to tight the sensor bolt, set it to 10Nm.
you can take off the air intake hose and filter housing if you think it make more easy for you to access the Sensor replacement (but not really neccessary)
the crank shaft position sensor is mounted on top of transmission housing and it getting signal from flywheel or back plate thats why you dont have to take off the front timing covers. if you want to make sure have a look the sensor and compare the sensors located at top of transmission housing that sensor have three wires.
WRONG. Crankshaft position sensor is on the left hand side of the engine. remove the top shroud off the engine, the front timing belt cover, left wheel, and the splash guard behind it. Also requires removing an additional cover that sits behind the main BOTTOM pulley. Have not gotten that far yet, but that is where the wire traces too. Will post to my blog with complete pictures.

Where do I start on this project? Is there a schematic with torque references etc that I should adhere to.
The shop told me I had to take off the front of the engine and that the sensor is next to the timing belt. From what your saying it is an external fix or do i have to get to the timing belt to replace it?
