Why won't my jeep liberty, get over 45mph and then goes dead and when it idles, it WONT let me accelerate past 2rpm (200? or 2000?)

lost power, 101:
all engines gas need tuneups. ever get that? in last 10 years.?
RPM is low. 2000. RPM is my guess (dial is 1k per mark)
so is NOT transmission slip. so is ENGINE power lost.
lost power, ever put in new spark plugs?
and gap them as the hood sticker shows?
(all answers USA Answers)
no actual engine disclosed.. or even the YEAR.
2002 or is it a 2012 car?
3.7L seems the only one.... V6.

lost power has over 50 causes. we use 1 to 10 tools to find it.
we never guess all 50 and go , nop that that.. .next......
my guess is engine misfires (can you feel it do that?)
if yes that is bad spark , most times.
but could be leaking or dead injectors.
if it only bogs,? feels like pulling a 10,000 block of concrete?
then low fuel pressure.
scan the PCM yet>?

got P03xx DTC errors SCANNED???????

Car problem

Sounds like a wire connection may have gotten pulled when the alternator was replaced. Some vehicles have coil packs that could have got wires disturbed. Dont know what your vehicle is since you didn't put year make or model.

Reading codes

Check the wiring to the throttle body, check the supply voltages as well. Check fuses too, it sounds like it received a voltage spike and then lost voltage and is now forcing limited rpm.

Just out of no where my car became sluggish.i had to almost floor the gas just to get the rpm's up just to go..the car did not die .its idle was also low and sounded like it ran rough. and it happened...

could be many different things...
Could be vacuum pressure, did you have an oil change recently?
Could be your car's fuel injector computer is faulty
Could be the fuel injectors - try fuel injector cleaner in your gas tank.

Have a P0740 code showing up every couple days on my 2001 Grand Cherokee LTD with 110,000 miles, but vehicle runs fine

That code tells you that there is a problem with the transmission torque converter or the circuit that controls it. Does the rpm drop down at about 45mph or does it remain the same? Also, if you tap the brake do the rpm's go up for a moment? (that verifies it was engaged)

Rpm's are high but no torque, was running fine till we had big rainstorm and next day just lacks power... No moisture in distributor cap or the mass airflow sensor. I have heard it may be the catalytic...

if the catalytic converter is plugged, you will have low exhaust output.
The only sure way to tell is to disconnect the cat and see if the power changes.

1990 Buick stalls when coming to a stop

Sounds like the torque converter clutch solenoid is bad. Unplug it and see if the problem stops. Unplug the 4 wire plug on the front of the transmission.
