The computer could be flooding the engine with fuel and not allowing enough air for cold start. Hold the throttle down to floor when cranking. No reason why it shouldn't start. You know it's getting fuel and spark, it has to start holding the pedal to the floor till it does start.

SOURCE: 98 s10 cranks but wont start. Checked for spark and fuel press,

Yes It does. There are (or should be) toggle switches to reset security alarm. However, the ignition hot lead passes through the security relay contacts. This relay may be the culprit, in that if it does not pull when ignition key is turned; The start relay will not pull disabling fuel pump and spark.

SOURCE: 1992 vortec v6 motor getting spark and strong fuel

the probem is probably in the injector assembly whichis under the intake plenum.after removing it you will se the plastic tubes and ijector popit valves unlike actual individual injectors.this whole contraption must be replaced as an assembly.you can get repair manuals from this site or go to you library.it may actually be flooding as these had problems with leaking fuel pressure regulators which i think are also only part of the whole assembly.

Hi, since you've replaced everything else, about the only thing left is the crankshaft position sensor. This is the sensor the computer uses to time the spark signals. Because this sensor is expensive, I recommend you test it first to verify it's bad before replacing. I have pasted test procedures below as well as replacement procedure in case it fails the tests. You will need an ohmmeter for the test. If you don't have an ohmmeter, you can buy one for as little as $10, or maybe you can borrow one. You will also need a timing light if you replace the sensor. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

TESTING CRV and 1995 Odyssey Models

  1. With the ignition switch OFF , detach the electrical connector on the side of the distributor housing.
  2. Measure the resistance between the following two CKP wires:

CRV models: The blue and white wires. The resistance should be 300-700 ohms. 1995 Odyssey models: The blue/green and blue/yellow wires. The resistance should be 700-1,300 ohms.
  3. If the resistance is not in the specified range, replace the distributor ignition housing.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION CRV and 1995 Odyssey Models

  1. Remove the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the distributor cap leaving the wires attached and place aside.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connectors at the side of the distributor housing.
  4. Make a matchmark reference mark between the distributor housing and the cylinder head and remove the distributor housing assembly.

To install:
  1. Transfer the components not supplied with the replacement distributor housing assembly.
  2. Install the distributor housing assembly in the reverse order of removal.

Fig. Fig. 2: The Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor rotor looks like a small gear in the lower distributor housing- CRV and 1995 Odyssey models

7. Check and reset the ignition timing as outlined below.

ADJUSTMENT CRV and 4-Cylinder Odyssey Models

If equipped with an automatic transaxle, place the shifter in Park or Neutral. If equipped with a manual transaxle place the shifter in Neutral. Make sure to apply the parking brake and block the drive wheels.

  1. With the heater off and in the full cold position, start the engine and hold the engine speed at 3000 rpm, until the radiator fan comes on at least one time. To check the ignition timing, the engine must be at idle speed and at normal operating temperature. Make sure all electrical consumers (defroster, radio, air conditioning, lights, etc.,) are turned OFF.
  2. Locate the blue plastic Service Check (SCS) Connector, as follows:

Odyssey models with 4-cylinder engines: centrally located on the passenger side, under the dash. The connector has two wires; one is brown with a black tracer, and the other wire is red.

See Figures 1 and 2

jturcotte_393.jpg

Fig. Fig. 1: The inductive lead of the timing light is placed around the No. 1 spark plug wire; and the light is aimed toward the marks on the crankshaft pulley.

jturcotte_1431.gif

Fig. Fig. 2: The red ignition timing mark on the crankshaft pulley is lined up with the pointer. The two small notches on either side of the red colored notch represent the plus (+) or minus (-) 2° increments. The white notch to the far right is Top Dead Center (TDC)

  1. Connect the SCS service connector tool number 07PAZ-0010100 or equivalent to the service connector. A paper clip can be substituted for the tool by forming a "U" shaped bend in the paper clip and carefully inserting it into the back side of the SCS service connector terminals. The purpose of the tool is simply to connect the two wires together temporarily.
  2. Connect a timing light to No. 1 ignition wire and point the light toward the pointer on the timing belt cover.
  3. Check the idle speed and adjust if necessary.
  4. The red mark on the crankshaft pulley should be aligned with the pointer on the timing belt cover.
The white mark on the crank pulley is Top Dead Center (TDC).
  1. Adjust the ignition timing by loosening the distributor mounting bolts and rotating the distributor housing to adjust the timing. Set as follows:
    2.2L/2.3L Odyssey 2.2L models: 13-17° at 650-750 rpm
  2. Tighten the distributor bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (24 Nm) and recheck the timing.
  3. Remove the SCS service connector or the substituted paper clip from the SCS service plug.

1999 Toyota Tacoma sr5 2.4l won't start back up while I was driving, what can cause this?

forgot to check all fuse first
gas engine, sure
then scan the PCM as it cranks and fails, oops this must be done
all car ran before so what matters is now and only now.
cranks great but will not start has up to 50 cause , both engine and EFI causes.
if the engine is good (IDK) compression tests pass.
then check spark if there is no spark it can not run. or if the PCM
detects spark bad it cuts fuel hard. all cars gas do that.
pure PCM hard coded logic inside.

lots of causes. bad engine, bad spark or bad fueling
even bad fuel or wrong fuel put in the thank or sabotage..
car is 23 years old and cars LOVE to fail that old and for sure not serviced every year. or 60k miles up ,repeat service.
lets say spark is bad this engine uses 2 paired spark coils
called wasted spark if 1 plug nor HV fails 2 slugs go dead, doomed
sorry will not run on 2 cylinders ever.
so put in new spark plugs and the 4 HV wire sets, do them 1 at a time and not wreck firing order, 1,3,4,2
sorry those 2 things do not last 23 years ever, now why Jose'

was the cam chain screaming its guts out for long time? oops
bad act that.
2RZ-FE I4

if scans to not solve this,
check fuel pressure next
by the book.

if the chain fails, this engine is interference and valves bend

2006 liberty cranks but wont start

gas engine, not diesel.
its probably flooding, ever give it a 60k mile tune up, ever?
we check spark tips for flooding and dry, never do we guess at fuel pumps, ever. (pressure gauge is $20)
tips dry or soaking wet.
we check for spark , no gas engine car runs with no spark
so we check all cylinders for good spark
if spark is good and flooding (new spark plugs) we use
cranking wide open throttle wot. like the operators guide says.
start now? this cuts all injection, this magic PCM trick.

see scotty ,
1: compresson at spec, 2: spark good and timed. and 3: fueling last.

skip the silly ad.
note he says 2, but he ASSUMES compression is good. (oops)
but his tests are fast, and if it fails to start, see #1 above. ask

Turns over but wont start

Start by checking all the fuses for fuel pumps, ignition, etc... CHECK ALL FUSES. Next you can check the spark by removing one spark plug and looking to see if there is any sign of gas/ wetness on it... Meaning if you're getting fuel or not to fire the engine. Reconnect the spark plug wire and set it on a metal surface, preferably the motor block or exhaust manifold. Have one person crank the motor over and the other person check to see if the spark plug is firing (sparking). Or to make QUICK diagnosis grab some "starting fluid" and spray into the intake for a second or two, then crank it over, if it sputters or starts then it's a fuel problem, if it does absolutely nothing then It's an ignition problem.

96 nissan max, 5spd, hard starting. crank over, bu wont start, replace cam, crank.pos, ref sensors, fuel pump, inhibter relay, i seem to have no spark to plug , remove plugs and there al wet with gas,

Hello! First check fuse # 59 (7.5A)..If it is good the failure is a typical fault on your vehicle and is more than likely the cause...A defective ECCS relay (aka..EGI)...It is the ECM Module control...It is located in box 2 on the left side of the engine next to the battery....a common failure...The cost is under $20..see photo below...If the relay does not solve the problem...There is a Technical Service bulletin that addresses the issue...

1981 CJ7 cranks but wont start

You need fuel, air and a spark for your motor to run.First determine if you have a spark or fuel, this will half yourproblem,if there is no spark then its an ignition fault and if the plugs are not getting wet then its a fuel problem.Start from the plugs and work back keep me posted ok.Check for spark first just remove a plug and fit it on the lead hold the plus to earth[with an insulated pliers to prevent a shock]get a buddy to swing her over and observe for a spark at theplug contacts.

Cranks but wont start

a host of reasons,
  • check if you have a spark buy removing ht lead from spark plug and holding near metal pat of engine while cranking, use insulated tool to hold lead, if spark thats ok
  • remove spark plug after lang cranking and smell if gas is present or plug is wet, if wet you are geting fuel
  • then ask again once you know what is not happening
  • has it electronic ignition
  • has it fuel injection or carbs

My 99 f350 v10 wont start. starts fine for a couple of days then out of the blue it just wont start. replaced filter, throttle control nothing any help

You have replace filter-assuming air filter?
Throttle control? Are you checking to make sure you have Fuel spraying after you crank the engine?
1- Let's check this. AFter cranking for a while.
2- remove spark plugs see if it wet.
3- it if is, you have fuel Go to # 5
4- It if is not, then you don't have Fuel. Need to fix this.
5- Plug the spark plug as it supposely connected, but not screwing in. Hold it against the chasis and crank it up to see if it sparks. Need a helper.
6-If there is no spark. Need to fix this.
7- If your spark plug is wet and there is also spark, report back then I will provide next diagnoses. Good luck.

1988 nissan pulsar wont crank

The black color of the spark plugs indicate that the engine was running rich (too much fuel). The fact that they were wet tells me that there may not have been ignition. The carb being wet may be just from flooding when you tried to start the engine.
First off you need to determine if you are getting spark. You can do this by connecting one of the plugs to a wire and grounding it to the block. Have someone crank the engine and watch the plug for spark. Blue is good yellow is week. Use care holding the plug as it can give off a nasty kick. If you don't have spark than its time to check the wires, distributor cap, rotor and so on.

1992 BMW won't stay turned on

The spark plugs shouldn't be wet, or are they wet because it won't start and they just get fuel soaked? Check the injectors.
