It's single phase. See this video, there are others showing how to wire a single phase motor. Please be careful, one error and you can do damage and serious harm to yourself and others.

We are trying to replace our 3 wire well pump with a 2 wire pump. It starts up and then stops. Any ideas?

A 3 phase motor replaced by a single phase motor has to be connected to phase one and neutral. You're going to use more power that way. How long does it run before shutting off? Is the new pump getting hot? Have an electrician determine which wires are the phase hot and neutral. Hooking up 2 phases without a neutral will trip the thermal overload in the motor.
