A 3 phase motor replaced by a single phase motor has to be connected to phase one and neutral. You're going to use more power that way. How long does it run before shutting off? Is the new pump getting hot? Have an electrician determine which wires are the phase hot and neutral. Hooking up 2 phases without a neutral will trip the thermal overload in the motor.
