Where is the fuel door release on a 2006 Mercury Mariner

they are hard to take off sometimes, you are doing it right just keep willing it it will come off, there is 2 gromits that hold it into place might have a little dirt into the plunger.

Open the liftgate and remove the 2 screws holding the lamp. Now grab the lamp and pull straight back to dislodge the spring clips. Then twist the sockets to remove the bulbs.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the lower splash shield bolts and the pin-type retainers.
   NOTE The LH lower splash shield must be removed before the RH lower splash shield.
   
3. Remove the lower splash shields.
4. Rotate the front end accessory drive tensioner counterclockwise and position the accessory drive belt aside
5. Disconnect the alternator electrical connector.
6. Position the alternator B+ protective cover aside and remove the alternator B+ terminal nut.
7. Remove the A/C compressor bolts. Use a tie-strap and position A/C compressor aside.
8. Loosen the alternator nuts.
9. Remove the lower alternator studs.
10. Remove the upper alternator bolt and the alternator.
