Have vehicle scanned
Prove Out Procedure
Turn the ignition switch from the OFF to the ON position and visually monitor the air bag indicator with all SRS components connected or restraint system diagnostic tools installed. The air bag indicator will light continuously for approximately 6 seconds and then turn off. If an SRS fault is present, the air bag indicator will:
The flashing might not occur until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition switch has been turned from the OFF to the ON position. This is the time required for the RCM to complete the testing of the SRS. If the air bag indicator is inoperative and an SRS fault exists, a chime will sound in a pattern of 5 sets of 5 beeps. If this occurs, the air bag indicator will need to be repaired before diagnosis can continue.
Diagnosing Customer Concerns Without Hard DTCs
If a lamp fault code (LFC) is reported by the customer but is not present when the vehicle comes in for service, follow the Diagnostic Instruction procedures in this section to identify the intermittent diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
Once the DTC is known, read the Normal Operation section of the pinpoint test for the DTC involved.
Refer to the Possible Causes section of the pinpoint test for the DTC involved, which lists the common concerns that relate to the DTC. Concerns are listed according to priority.
Diagnosing Customer Concerns with Hard DTCs
Most supplemental restraint system (SRS) diagnostic procedures will require deactivation and reactivation or depowering and repowering of the system. Deactivation and reactivation requires the disconnection of most SRS components and the installation of restraint system diagnostic tools. Depowering and repowering requires disconnection of the battery and removal of the restraints control module (RCM) fuse. This reduces the risk of inadvertent deployment of SRS components while diagnostic procedures are being carried out.
Restraint system diagnostic tools are required for the diagnosis and testing of the SRS. It is not acceptable to short-circuit the air bag module connections with a jumper wire. If a jumper wire is used to short-circuit the air bag module connections, a LFC will be displayed.
You need more then a code read too see these DTC'S . Your need a factory or some other professional type scan tool .

The self check light will fail to go out (usually within 2 seconds) when the system has detected a fault and switched off the system. A code read will be needed to identify the fault.

that clicking sound you no longer hear is a relay switch behind dashboard ....aftermarket one's sold at all chain auto parts stores

Safety Belt pre-tensioner Status (Driver pre-tensioner Circuit Fault).
On the seat belt buckle there is a pre-tensioner that when vehicle is involved in an accident it will deploy and pull the belt tighter.
If the vehicle has never been involved in an accident it could be what we call terminal fretting which is just a build up on the terminals which cause a open circuit. Usually just unplugging and reconnecting the connector a couple of times will fix this.
If this doesn't correct it I would recommend having your local dealer look at it.

The airbag is there, what's most likely wrong is the key switch may be going bad. Take your Ranger to a reputable mechanic and ask them to check it...unless you have an OBD II or a multimeter.
Testimonial: "Thanks for your help - We do have the OBDII test unit and will check it tonight. Thanks"

Airbag systems should never be worked on by consumers who are not professionals with the Airbag system. You will need to take the vehicle in to the dealership to have the Airbag system professionally serviced, and to avoid problems with your insurance company. Airbag systems are very delicate, and consists of crash sensors in various points on the vehicle, as well as a system of wires, and an Airbag computer module. Usually the Airbag light comes on if the system has been activated, or become faulty. Once again, never work on the Airbag system yourself, take it to the dealership to have it serviced.

Both answers are good but jeff's is the technical and proper way to get the conclusion you need if you have the equipment resources to do it,that being said if you go to an autozone or other parts store or a mechanic that has a code reader that covers srs codes(air bag)you will get the problems cause sometimes because it can be a dirty or loose connector that's causing it or a wire but before you go to get it read try disconnecting the battery cables and then clean the connectors associated with the air bags and the restraint control module these are the front seats under them there are occupant sensors that no if someone is sitting there that's why your seat belt buzzer comes on if not buckled and have the air bag circuit going through them each seat must be checked the air bags themselves have connectors the crash sensors in front and on the side and air bags all of this must be done with the vehicles battery disconnected for 5-10 minutes to be safe otherwise you will deploy an/all air bags and that's not good if your face is right next to it when deployment happens you will be hit at 215mph.and it will bust up your face hands or whatever is there that's to close to it so please pay attention here to this it's very important for your safety ///after completeing the work reconnect the cables use your fob to silence the alarm/horn so you don't stay in theft mode now turn the key from off to on do not crank the engine yet observe all the dash lights they will go out after 3-5 seconds this is a self test mode that happens every time you start the vehicle if the problem is still present the beep will happen and the light will be illuminated and now you can go have it read for codes to get the main cause?this was told to you to try to rule out possible causes that cause this to happen but if the codes are there you'll have a better idea what's wrong ok good luck stephen
Also this is for everybody who reads this post DO NOT ALLOW PEOPLE TO PUT THERE FEET UP ON THE DASHBOARD IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT HAPPENS IT WILL PUSH THERE KNEES INTO THERE FACE AT 215MPH AND THAT WILL CAUSE MULTIPLE BROKEN BONES IN THERE FACE AND SKULL FRACTURES AND TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY AND EYE LOSS FROM TRAVELING BROKEN BONES THIS IS NOT A JOKE OR A TALE IT'S REAL STUFF THAT HAPPENS JUST ASK AN ER NURSE ABOUT IT SHE SEE'S ALL REMEMBER THERE'S A GOOD AMOUNT OF DISTANCE BETWEEN YOU AND THE BAG WHEN YOUR BUCKLED UP BUT NOW YOU HAVE CUT THAT DISTANCE DOWN BY 3/4 BECAUSE IT WILL BE YOUR KNEES NOT THE BAG THAT MAKES CONTACT IN ACCIDENTS PEOPLE ARE INJURED FROM BAG DEPLOYMENT ALONE AND THAT BAG STOPS THEM FROM WINDSHIELD CONTACT WITH THE SEAT BELT NOW YOUR GETTING PUNCHED IN THE FACE BY YOUR OWN KNEES OH BOY PLEASE EVERYBODY SPREAD THE WORD AND WARN THOSE THAT YOU SEE DOING THIS IN A CAR OR TRUCK THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S COMING FROM A CAR ACCIDENT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT YOUR OWN KNEES CAN KILL YOU
