SOURCE: PCV valve for 2004 Hona CRV
PCV Valve Operation:
A vacuum-controlled metering device that regulates the flow of crankcase fumes in the positive crankcase ventilation system by allowing more flow at high speed than at low speed, and acts as a system shutoff in case of engine backfire to prevent an explosion in the crankcase.
Depending on your engine size, the PCV is a different style and slightly different location.
Usually they are mounted in a hole on your valve cover.... connected by a vacuum tube.
Some are mounted with threads into the engine block (usually by the oil filter)
On the '04 Crv - it is nearly inaccessible behind the AC compressor and beneath what looks like an old vacuum advance. Most PCV valves today do not need to be replaced, unless there is actual valve failure, which I have not seen happen. I would not be concerned about replacing it.

There is not a PCV valve on the 4cyl. 6 cyl. is located under hood, center, upper engine area, mounted in rear valve cover Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.

The general location mentioned is correct. However, unlike most PCV valves there is no hose connection to the valve. There is a single bolt that attachs the PCV valve to the valve cover. Loosen the bolt, then remove the PCV valve from the valve cover. It is inserted inside the valve cover. Very different from most PCV valves as far as attachment method to the valve cover.

It's not a easy job but I'm pretty sure you had one of those problems where the idle surges if this is the case take out the air intake tube that leads to the throttle body, get a can of carburetor fluid and spray around the throttle body. You will need someone to start the car and hold the gas peddle to 2500 rpm while you do this the car will shut of when you do this, restart the car and repeat the process until half of the can is used up. Now check your antifreeze level fill if needed and reset you check engine light. Now you can take the idle air back and get your money.
