Honda aren't noted for Mazda/Mitsubishi/Subaru/Nissan parts pricing unless they have an entirely different policy in Australia from the UK. Here they are renown for reasonable prices alongside Toyota.

Unless I am mistaken (I am not very familiar with the model), the thermostat seal is a rubber ring costing very little and usually this does not fail. Where aluminium housings are used there is a tendency for corrosion to build and push the seal from its position.

Some CR-V models have the thermostat in assembly with the housing. I don't know the OE price but there are plenty of aftermarket offerings and here the cost varies from less than £20 to less than £40 Sterling.

I suggest you do two things - get a second opinion and investigate the offerings of the local factors of aftermarket spare parts.

SOURCE: thermostat replacement

You're going to lose some coolant, so have a bucket or other container, and some fresh coolant ready. Follow the upper radiator hose to the point where it's connected to the engine. The hose is clamped to a metal housing (water inlet) which is bolted to the engine. Remove the bolts (not the hose) and lift the housing to expose the thermostat (may require a little prying with a screwdriver or similar tool). Note how the old thermostat is fitted (which end is up), lift it out of the engine, and then remove all traces of gasket from the housing and the engine. Install the new thermostat and gasket, replace the bolts, add coolant as necessary, and you're done.

SOURCE: how to replace a 1997 honda crv thermostat?

it should be located right outside the engine block. follow the black rubber hose going from the radiator to the engine. the peice it connects to on the engine should be where it is. if you buy a hanes repair manual from autozone for your car it will walk you through it

Location and replacement thermostat 2002 honda crv

Follow the radiator hoses to where they both enter the thermostat housing. The housing will have three hoses attached to it (two large and one small). The housing is canted somewhat downward toward the lower radiator hose.

Remove the hoses and then the 2 bolts holding the cover in place. Grasp the exposed thermostat and remove it gently, taking note of the position of the cut-outs on the rubber seal and the location of the jiggle valve.

If the surfaces are not clean and components aligned correctly, your unit will leak and not work.

This is really one of the easier fixes on this vehicle.

2002 honda crv air filter change

Hi!

Can you specify if you are referring to the engine intake air filter or the cabin air filter?
If you are referencing the cabin air filter, the attached youtube video should help.

I originally created the video for the Odyssey, but found out after looking at my dad's CRV that it is essentially the same procedure as the Odyssey, and have also noticed that the same stands true for most Honda vehicles built between 2005 and 2009.

Happy motoring!

2002 HONDA CRV COLD ANTIFREEZE LEAK

this happens alot on older vehicles most often times because the coolant hose shrink and expand around a fitting. try and tighten all coolant clamps. this often is all it takes to solve the problem. you should also look to see that all seals around heads of engine show no seepage

Code 1167 - Honda CRV 2002

Check all fuses, then check the wiring of the two 02 sensors on either side of the cat. converter. If the fuses and wiring are fine, it is likely one of the oxygen sensors; one is about $50 and the other is $200 (parts only). Use only Honda recommended parts, not BOSCH.
