Wheel sensors are usually for ABS and traction control systems. Speedo is usually connected to transmission

Did you change the plastic gear that goes on the vehicle speed sensor when you changed the sensor? Those wear out as well.

SOURCE: 1994 jeep grand cherokee - speedometer does not work

On a 94 jeep the speedo is electronic, you need to check the speed sensor on the transfer case, they are only about 20 bucks and very easy to swap out, if that does not do it then it becomes more involved because it is either the cluster (dash) or the BCM "(body control module) which controls the speedo in the dash as well as a host of other things like cruise control security system etc... you may need to take it to a dealer and have them check to see that the speed sensor is sending the right info and then you can narrow it down to either the cluster or something in between.

On the top of the bellhousing. From the drivers point of view it is in the 11:00 o'clock position. The harness wraps around the back of the bellhousing and plugs in on the passenger side of the block near the oil sending unit.

SOURCE: Speedometer/odometer/cruise control isn't working.

It's your speed sensor at the transfercase on the drivers side i believe. Check the wire and clip to the sensor for any break or loose contacts.
Easy fix and is about a 30 min job to do with simple tools. Un-clip the wire conntection, remove the retainer bolt and slide and sensor out. To install just do everything in reverse and add transmisson oil if needed.

Most of the time, it's going to be the sensor. Keep in mind that there are two sensor's so make sure it's the one on the output shaft at the transfercase. The other one is closer to the front of the transmission on the same side with is the input Volosity speed sensor.
If it was your ABS sensor, you ABS light would come on in your dash.
Good luck and hope this helps

Does my 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0L speedometer have to work in order for my cruise control to work. is there a way that i can bypass it to work

1st question, yes the spedometer has to work for the cruise to work or it has to at least get a signal from the speed sensor, if the problem is just the speedometer head then the cruise will still work, as a matter of fact that is how we test the system if when one of these come in the shop with an in-op speedometer we take them out and try the cruse if the cruse workes then we know the problem is just the speedometer head, if the cruse does not worn then it is a problem with the speed sensor or the control circuits for the speed sensor.

2nd question there is no way to bypass the the system to mke the cruise work yo dont have a speed sensor signal so the cruise has nothing to use a refrance in a way it thinks the car is not moving.

good luck, try replace the speed sensor in the transmission it might fix both problems.
