I have a 2008 f150 5.4L 3V that will start and idol smoothly for roughly 6 to 8 minutes and then lose all oil pressure and start idling rough missing and knocking once in a while the oil pressure returns for a split second and then drops to nothing again.... I've removed oil pan cleaned pick up tube replaced oil filter and added new oil still continues to do so.... It seems that every time it does it that it completely drains the battery of all its power possibly leaving enough volts to start it one more time before completely dying and continues to do so over and over each time I boost the truck to troubleshoot some more same problems occurring each time.....

Sounds like an electrical problem.

The oil pressure reading is likely bogus else engine would have been ruined by now.

Check primary power and ground connections.

As other other suggested... have batt an alternator tested.

The throttle body needs cleaning. It has some carbon build up, and when the battery went dead the computer lost its learned values, one of which is base throttle position. Now its reset back to factory specs, not accounting for a dirty throttle body. Seen it a million times

SOURCE: Truck losing power and service engine soon light on

Like to other guy said, give it a tuneup. Also try SEAFOAM to clean carb up of slug. Also check to make sure the butter fly for the choke has not come loose, causing it the choke it down. Failed choke pull-off.

SOURCE: My 1996 Buick Roadmaster LTD engine intermittently stalls.

U DON'T HAVE A CARBURETOR SO FORGET THAT, THE FUEL REGULATOR WOULD NOT CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. I AM A GM FACTORY TECH AND KNOW THIS WITH CERTAINTY. U COULD HAVE SLUDGE IN THE IDLE SPEED CONTROL AIRBYPASS VALVE.

SOURCE: Dodge 2.7 I'm losing oil

The first stop is to measure the pressure with an external gauge. if the readings are the same, surgery is needed, I would look at the oil pressure relief valve for foreign particles.

It takes resistance to make pressure, and your decsription does not sound good. If the pressure is actually dropping, and you find no issues with the oil pump and pick up, you need to measure bearing clearances... Essentially, everywhere oil is pumped needs to be inspected...

Rough idol after idling long period ,but smooth's out after cooling off, until another extended idol period.is it a coil breaking down

I don't know year--make--model? The basics for a rough idle is to check for a leak of some kind, fuel--egr--vacuum leak, something of that nature.

Any applicable trouble codes? Also, check and clean the idle air system, see if it helps?

Lifter noise and rough idle on 1986 isuzu trooper II 2.3. litre

Bad lifter can cause poor idle. Make sure oil is new and full and that oil pressure is good. If all that is good and tapping continues, replace bad lifters.

Ahhhh!, if only we could turn back the hands of time. Is the vehicle sending any signals like blue smoke through the exhaust, or using a lot of oil. Possibly running on after the ignition is turned off. These are all indications of high milage wear internally. Rings, bearings, etc.etc. Low oil pressure? Blinking oil light when at intersections. Any of the above?

Afer being driven 5-7 miljes my 99 tauras loses

I would have to say your engine is probably shot. The bearings are probably gone. It is possible, i suppose, that your oil pump is faulty. As soon as the oil warms up, and becomes thin, the rods and lifters start to rattle. The same goes for the oil pump, as oil becomes hot, and thin, it may not be pumping properly. I would try a used oil pump, and see if there is any difference before i wrote the engine off.
