Ok there's a few things here ###1 check fluid level ###2 check the shifter cable to see if it broke by getting under the truck have an assistant use the shifter with there foot on the brake wheels blocked engine off and observe if the cable is moving on the transmission bracket and the shifting pawl coming out of the inside is also moving if not grab the cable from the other side and pull on it if it starts to come through its broken if this is not the case and you see the cable and pawl moving on the side of the transmission then we have an internal problem here this could be a blown pressure solenoid / cracked circuit board if you were bouncing around and caught a big rock or something denting the pan this is very possible or a complete shift pack failure or your torque convertor clutch switch or convertor itself has failed so if there was no dents in the pan fluid is good and cable is good moving take off the cable from the linkage arm and try to manually shift it into gear if the pawl is loose with no clicks and resistance when you move it the spring inside has broken that holds it in place watch this video of curt from monster transmissions on you tube okay I tried to tell you as much as I could type in 4r70w shifter pawl and you will see monster transmission come up as well as others but watch curts video first he is very into detail and will guide you through and by the way he likes to call the toothed shifter pawl a rooster tail we are talking about the same thing ok and if your wondering where your info is coming from I'm a taxi mechanic in nyc.with 50 years experience in all phases of the automobile ok good luck stephen

SOURCE: having trouble shifting gears wont

You need to get to the transmission linkages with some penetrating spray, right where they are attached to transmission at front drivers side. You may have to remove battery & tray to get better access, but 90% of time that's the problem area. You'll see where the shifter linkages attach & pivot on top. The top linkage is your power valve,(like a kickdown) which kicks it down on acceleration, then returns after. This needs to move freely, and it may take some work & spray to get it loosened up, but that should help with your problem, as it affects the shifter itself too. After you get them movong freely, put a good coat of white lithium grease or similar on them . On my 95 neon, i'd have to do it, about once a year or more. Initially it would shift out of lower gear to next at higher revs, and when stopping it would shift down hard. Good Luck

SOURCE: No forward movement but reverse works fine. Help?

More than likely the forward clutches are burnt, causing the no forward movement problem.Remove the transmission dipstick and smell the fluid,if it smells like burnt coffee then you need the transmission rebuilt.

SOURCE: ON MY FORD F150 IT WON1T GO INTO REVERSE. SHIFTS

Call a dealer about a new recall. There is another problem in the cruise control that is making it hard to put a vehicle into reverse. There are also problems with brake lights and dash indicators for the ABS all caused by the cruise control. This includes about 16 million various Ford products.

SOURCE: turbo 350 trans no forward gears but does have reverse

It's either your servo, or your bands.
Either way, the tranny needs a good cheap shop repair.
I'd just get a warrantied salvage yard tranny if I were you and save a few hundred bucks.

I have all gears but reverse and when in park and neutral and gas pedal is pressed the car moves forward, why?

well could be two things. either your transmission has crapped out on you. or you have a shifter linkage issue. which means when the car is in park its not really in park. try this. move the shifter and see if the car moves in a different gear then what it says it is in . so if it moves in neutral it could be drive and reverse is neutral. if it does not reverse at all. time for a new trany is my guess.

96 ROVER DISC. Has strong reverse - won't engage any forward gears. Fluid seems full even when warm.

Make sure the 4wd shifter is in correct position and hasn't slipped out of correct spot to get you moving forward.

Can you tell me the amps on fuse #16 on a 2004 Ford F150 FX4? My shifter has zero resistance when I try and put the truck in gear. So I cannot get it into reverse or drive at this time. Wondering if it...

Fuse 16 is a 10 amp fuse. It goes to the ABS module (run/start power). You also have fuse 33 (15 Amp) Shift solenoid. Both fuses are mini fuses.

1988 Jaguar xj6 No forward in the automatic trans rev works fine

the linkage is just a slight bit off, it parks between gears when you shift into the slots. Disassemble the shifter from the center console, and slowly move just the cable its self between the positions and see if you have forword gears. When you find and sync the gears, then tighten the cable to the shifter so the positions match the notches in the shifter.

Light in center consile where shifter is came apart.

From Lusty Kid:

This is a guestimate:

Allen wrench to remove the T handle.

Move rug from underneath shifter console to acces retraining bolts to unit. You are on your own after removing it. Reverse process to install back. Replace the T handle. Make sure release button is engaged. Oh, fix the light after parts are remove of course!!!!!!

Car stops moving in reverse gear

Sounds like the car is just slipping out of gear. Keep your hand on the shifter when you back up next time. See if you can feel the shifter move when the car comes out of gear. If the shifter moves up when it happens keep pressure on the shifter holding it back like you dont want it to move forward. And of course if the shifter moves back when it comes out of gear, put forward pressure on the shifter so it doesnt slip out. This might work for now but but i know i wouldnt want to spen 700 for that ****. Let me know how it goes.
