Hook up a fuel pressure gauge an see if you are not loosing fuel pressure causing this running problem. Hook it up to the fuel rail with a long enough hose to locate the gauge where you can watch it while you are driving. If you are loosing pressure then check for fuel resistance in the line, fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump going bad.

Have you tested the crank sensor? sounds like no command from PCM to pulse injectors.

SOURCE: Reduced power below 4000 RPM

The main relay also controls the transmission and will cause an intermittent interruption of power and indicates its going bad. about a $60.00 replacement cost. the relay is located under left side of dash.

Hmmmm
20 years old.
Could be it's just getting tired, as in worn components.
As long as you're getting adequate pressure at operating RPM it should not be a major concern.
If you're not using 15W 40 I would suggest doing so.
Cheers.

All your gauges are working. The gas gauge Is also working. When you fill it, you will fill over the limit the fuel level switch will go by a couple of gallons. So the gauge will not drop for a few miles. until you use up the excess fuel

Truck slightly jerks when switching gears

Given how little it's being driven there's a good chance it's just a vacuum leak or a bad modulator. neither one of these are very expensive to fix.

1998 S-10 cold start

The cold weather wreaks havoc on everything. I am thinking that the cold weather and your octane rating are not getting along, hence no error codes. Have you tried fuel drier and or octane booster?Since the truck starts when the temperature gets warmer, I would look at octane as the culprit. Try some octane booster and see if that helps. Let me know. Hope this helps.
