2000 ford explorer xlt 4.OL i put a 12 ounce can in and the gauge show 40 psi is that the correct pressure or do i need to add any more freon?
With AC front and rear running full blast, add refrigerant until it comes back to the compressor cold and sweaty. That is when both evaporator are filled, when suction line is cold and sweaty. My little VW took 30 ozs. I don't know what yours takes but you may find a label under the hood saying how much.

It holds 30 oz.of R134. Temperature is relevant to refrigerant the warmer it gets the higher the pressure. If the air coming out of the ducts feels cold and "Crisp" you have enough. A/C service centers usually evacuate all the refrigerant and recharge with the specified amount. I hope this helps. Take care.
i add 24 OZ.of R134.the pressure on the gauge is a little pass 55 psi. the gauge is in the red the air is cold coming through the vent did i add to much? i believe the system have a leak in it the pressure was 20 psi. yesterday morning the day before it was 40 psi.
Refrigerant pressure is relevant to temperature and humidity, if both are high the pressure will be high, if you think you have a leak leave it as is, if the pressure goes too high the compressor will turn off. If and when the system goes low again recharge with refrigerant mixed with Dytell it cost more but you will be able to see the leak and be able to fix it. I hope I answered your question if not you know how to reach me. Take care, stay cool

SOURCE: how do i replace the pcv valve on a 2000 explorer xlt v6 sohc?
On the passenger side of the intake manifold, coming off the bottom
about the center of the engine front to back, you'll feel a hose that
comes off a nipple. That hose makes a 90 degree bend and goes around to
the rear of the motor. Where that hose meets the Y-connector from the
other side of the intake you'll find the PCV valve. It's almost
impossible to see it with the hood installed, and even tougher to reach
it.

THOSE NUMBERS ARE VERY GOOD, THE PROBLEM MOST LIKELY IS A DEFECTIVE OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT, HAVE REPLACED 100'S OVER THE YEARS FOR THIS SAME ISSUE, GREAT THAT U CHECKED THE PRESSURE THOUGH, IF THE LIGHT WAS INDICATING ACTUAL LOW PRESS U COULD HAVE WASTED THE BEARINGS IN THE ENGINE.

Look under the dash on passenger side and just to the left of the blower motor housing you will see the 4WD control module.Remove the 2 screws holding the module and let it hang down and your resistors are behind this.Remove the 2 screws holding the resistors and remove.
Now I am assuming you have manual climate control and not electonic.
SOURCE: need to add 13-4a freon to my 2000 venture chevy van. Where is the pressure hose located?

there is a port and it takes r123a and it has a green port on it but if it's leaked out you mave have to have it vachumed out, if you charge it be sure to get R134a with oil so that you don't burn up the pump, when the thing leaks it loses oil.
