1993 Chevrolet G30 5.7L the Chevrolet Van was starting and run it have toggle switch on the dash that flick to on when i get ready to start the engine the pump was running when i turn the switch on but it would run for about 30 second before it stop do it suppose to run that long? how do i check the pump on the vehicle? the vehicle has been sitting up for about 2 or 3 years.
Pump stops when system is pressurized --get a meter to test the wiring and with a toggle switch i'd start with the ignition system first then pump
Causes: Failed pump, blown fuse, bad wiring.
no blown fuse wiring look good is it the pump? how do i check the pump on the vehicle?
You could disconnect the fuel line at some point and turn on the car to see if fuel comes out, or power the fuel pump from a separate known to be good 12 source. Maybe there is an obstruction in the fuel line, but that usually is not the case.
explain what you mean about power the fuel pump from a separate known to be good 12 source do you mean connect the pump to a 12 volt battery?
Yes, or if you can check the power at the fuel pump, looking for 12 volts.
where is the fuel pump relay located?
number 1 is fuel pump fuse
number 2 is bus bar positive +
number 3 fuel pump relay
is this location under the hood on the fire wall?
Yes, that's a picture from another van with the same engine and year.

HI...
The common cause of the problem that you related.
Is the FUEL PUMP RELAY " Called MAIN RELAY.
Is located : left side under the dash.
Is a BIG relay gray colour. with a connector of 7 or 8 wires.
I recomend replace the relay.
And letme know if you solve your problem.
I hope this information work on your problem.
Thank you for use fixya.
SOURCE: engine wont turn over with key, not getting enough gas to run.
Have the key and ignition checked! I am assuming that the key has a security chip on it, Right? If so, re-program key at dealership, and if that alone doesn't work, have them check both the key and column.

Some GM products also incorporate the oil sender switch into that circuit for fuel pump, so that in case of an accident, engine shuts off, oil pressure drops, in turn, shuts off power to fuel pump. May be worth a look at what your getting for oil pressure, as well as checking switch/sender.

There is a fuel cutoff switch on the passengerside floorboard, towards the right kick pannel, there will be a little red button on top of it, check to see if that is tripped, also when you turn the key to the on position listen to see if you hear the fuel pump prime up, just a short buzzing noise from the underside of the cab, if you dont hear it, that is a good indicator that your fuel pump maybe bad, i would also check the pressure at the fuel rail, chrome or black colored bar located near the fuel injectors.

It should be located on the outside of the frame rail, forward of the right front tire. It should look like a ceramic type ballist with a pigtail and one bolt holding it on. If the pigtail has a connector dont forget to check for water, rust, etc. also check for wire damage. It should be the culprit though since by jumping the relay you are in theroy bypassing the resistor. I hope this is correct I didnt have time to pull a diagram and look at it but I am pretty sure this is correct. Thank you for your vote and comment. I hope this helps, good luck my friend.
