It should open from inside using the handle. There is also a keyhole on the outside to manually unlock it. It may be hidden by a small flip open cap by the license plate.

Simply hold down the button you want to use (there are 3 for up to 3 different garage doors) until the light flashes and keep holding it down. Now place the garage door opener up near the sun visor and hold it's button down until the light on the on button you are programming flashes. It is now programed. The other 2 are done the same way. Good luck. It took me a while to find the info, it's not in any Volvo manuals I could find.

Systematically cut it out with a sawzall reciprocating saw.
Cut the post that the latch attaches to when closed, if you can get at it with the blade.
Then, replace the post.
May need a long prybar to open if, simply stuck, while operating the opening button or lever.
Good luck with this replacement of the tail gate.

never heard of the pump exploding... bursting one of the high pressure lines is more likely. new belt afterwards? sure. new battery? dont see how it could have harmed the battery. new tie rod? no way did this damage a tie rod.
replacing burst high pressure line 75.00 for parts
replacing belt 15.00 for parts
replacing power steering pump if needed no more than 150.00 for parts. thats 240.00 for parts... for the sake of argument lets double that for labor. 480.00
replace tie rod (in no way damaged by power steering pump) 35.00 to 125.00 depending on where you get it. installation cost about 75.00 (Tie rods can most often be adjusted to correct problem without having to replace them.
now, new battery (probably not related to the burst line) anywhere from 40.00 to 200.00 from autozone with free installation.
