I have managed to partially remove it about 3/16 away from the engine and now it is stuck. Do I have to beat it out the rest of the way?
Never pound out anything on a motor especially when it's aluminum casting first make sure you have everything removed that would get in the way go to rockauto.Com and look up your car and pump there you will see pictures in multiple views of what all sides of the pump look like so you can get a full understanding of what's going on jack up the vehicle and remove the tire so you can get better axcess to the pump and see it better on the inside of the pump there is a rubber o ring gasket that is squeezed in to the engine front cover to seal the water pump from leaking and this is what is making it very difficult for you to get it out it also may have rtv sealer on it making it harder to slide out now as look at the pump and everything is removed that would stop it take liquid wrench or pb blaster or WD40 and spray it around the pump where it fits into the front engine cover this will aid you in pulling it out don't worry you can clean it up with brake parts cleaner or rubbing alcohol later just try to move the pump in a little to get the spray lube into the front cover and this should help you for total removal of the pump these front wheel drive engines are very hard to work on from overhead that's why jacking it up and working through the wheel well will be much easier if you still can't get it out and all is disconnected attach a slide hammer to the front pump impeller on a corner at at time and pull it out and keep going around the triangle to it comes out good luck I'm sorry if this comes late to you I'm a taxi mechanic in nyc.with 50 years experience and I was rebuilding a motor last night that was giving me problems and I usually do fixya answers around 3a.m. but couldn't so I am going home now and I saw your post and I picked it up right away to answer before I left work so just be patient with it and you will succeed in getting it out stephen

A manual will have pictures and everything.
Just replaced mine. Five bolts in bracket holding tension idler, A/C
compressor (if applicable) and power steering pump must be removed to
access 3 bolts in water pump. Just push aside enough to access
remaining bolts. Email at [email protected] if additional info is
needed. Also, diagram serpentine belt before removing. Took me at least
15 attempts and 20 minutes to figure out
SOURCE: Ford Fusion 04 Engine Management Light
I had a 2002 model 1.4 Fiesta, same problem Engine management light or
ECA, electronic accelaration Control (EAC), it needs a ford dealer to do
a computer diagnostic, most likely that it will need replaced.
Mt friend who is a mechanic for ford said that it was a common factory
fault and is very common in 1.4 zetec /duratec petrol models.
I now have a 2007 Fusion and was quick to see if this problem had been sorted on this model, and it has!!
Hope this helps!!
