The key there is what is the engine light telling you. Connect a scan tool and read the code. The code tells the problem and the fix. My guess is a sensor not connected properly (ECT)?

read the code and we will help you. there's a mothod of reading toyota codes by use of a bulb tester by connecting it to the obd terminals. when you hit the correct one the engine light will start blinking. read the code: Good luck
Disconnect the battery negative cable for at least five minutes. If you are doing this to turn off the check engine light for a smog inspection the machine will read that and it will not pass the test.
had the same problem. got water on the computer located under the drivers seat. had to replace computer at a cost of zar6500.after fighting with toyota they replaced free of charge. only cost me zar850 for labour.
