we went thru all of the proper checks, pcv was the culprit but it had been bad so long, caused other vacuum leaks at crank seal and rear main...evidently a common problem with vws

To check the PCV valve, temporarily remove it. If there is a lot of pressure and air flow coming through the hose it attaches to, compression that is suppose to remain above the piston is getting into the crank case. This may be due to a cracked or worn piston rings or rings, a cracked head or engine block, or a hole or crack at the top of a piston. If there isn't much pressure or flow at the hose attached to the PCV valve, the valve is likely stuck shut. If you hold it next to your ear and shake it longitudinally, you should hear the valve clicking back and fourth. This indicates it's likely fine. If you do a compression check of each cylinder and find 2 cylinders that are next to each other both low on compression, a blown head gasket is a likely cause. All engines will have some amount of air flow through the PCV valve.

I dont think it is the PCV but its a good idea to replace the PCV at least once a year either way, and its very cheap, usually $2-$5 at autozone.

SOURCE: STOP ENGINE-LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON AFTER INSTALLING NEW

Before making any repairs I suggest you put an external mechanical oil pressure gauge in place of the sending unit and determine what your actual oil pressure is. That will tell you which way to go using real numbers. If this condition appeared suddenly it may not be a large problem, especially as you did not note any knocking etc that goes along with internal wear.

SOURCE: Rear engine oil leak....

Oil leak can be attributed to several factors.
1. Gasket failure.
2. Uncontrolled Crank case pressure Failure.

RECOMENDATION:
Tighten both the valve cover and oil pan bolts.
Replace the Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve and vacuum line.,

INFO: PCV
This is a valve causes a negative vacuum on the engine while its running, As to say if it had a leak in a valve cover it should not be leaking while its running, only when the engine it turned off.

Hope this tip guides you in the correct direction to solve this problem.

Received a P219a code read out for my 2012 toyota corolla what can I do?

P219A - Bank 1 Air/Fuel Ratio Imbalance

Possible causes - Leaking or contaminated fuel injectors - Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel - Leaking evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve - Exhaust or intake air system leaks - Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system - Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system is leaking or the valve is stuck open - Ignition system - Incorrectly seated engine oil dipstick, tube or oil fill cap

05 malibu leaking oil from rear of engine

This may be from excessive pressure in the sump from blow-by from the compression process . It is from a blocked PCV valve that is not equalising that pressure. I have also known oil leaks to happen because the rear main bearing cap is leaking oil past the join around the bolts (loose) or no sealing compound used in assembling the rear main bearing.. I would look at the PCV valve as it is the cheapest test first.. Check that the oil is not coming from the front gear box seal or torque converter seal.

1998 Chevy Malibu is using excessive oil. Had an oil change done back in October 2012 . Then checked Oil level in December of 2012 and was about 3/4 low in oil! why ?

first thing check make sure oil pan drain plug tight. check make sure oil filter tight. try tighten oil filter by hand see if turn tighten oil filter clockwise direcction if all is good. how many miles on vechicle.could have oil leaks park vechicle in spot that clean.move vechicle see if you see oil spots on ground if yes.your front timing cover seal leaking oil or rear main oil seal ;eaking.or valve cover gaskets leaking.if find no oil leaks more likely engine burning oil.replace pcv valve.check air filter if you see oil in air filter housing either have bad pcv valve or pcv not getting vacuum make sure pcv valve getting vacuum when engine running vacuum should be felt at pcv if not pcv valve bad or pcv hose disconnected broken or plugged.if pcv valve okay engine has worn piston rings.worn valve seals or guides or oil return holes stopped up thats all possible reasons for engine burning oil.if spark plugs oil fouled engine burning oil.

Blowing oil out of rear mane

hi do you know for sure its the rear main and not another leak, maybe higher up? on alot of these cares nowadays you can have cam sensor seals leaking causing the same apperance as a rear main seal leak. My sugestion is to clean off your engine and find a part store that sells engine oil die. and poor it in your engine fill tube, With a florecent lamp you can actually follow the die up the engine to its highest point of leakege. This is were the problem is that needs attension. Know if its still a rear main seal. Then when you install it you must take exstreme precautions not to roll the lipe seal-use a small flat piece of plastic to help guide the lipe around the end of the crank shaft, then add red locktite to the outer edge of the seal. you must fing a installer that fits the circumfrance of the seals outer edge but not contacting the rear cover. hint exaust adapters from parts stores work really well. use a 2bye4 cutt off over the end of the adapter and drive it in straight do not let it get unlevel or it will not seal. Let it dry for at least an hour before you putt your fly wheel on. I also want you to check the positive crank case ventilation system. PCV valve clogged restricted air inlet tube usually bye air filter running to valve cover. with the engine runninigat idle you should feel a suction on your thumb at this tube. if notthe system is clogged and you will need to remove valve cover and clean off or above the splash shiel made to the upper part of the valve cover.this system keeps the engines internal pressures from getting to high witch causes premature seal damage and gasket failure. Hope this helps from Joe.

Oil leak near rear main seal? what is it

STAFF NOTES:
We simply do not believe due to years in operation that you have a rear main engine seal failure, the above tips are an attempt to eliminate all options leaving only the rear main engine seal that may have Failed.
