Hello, I can assist you. Begin by rounding up the necessary tools:

7mm socket and ratchet
7mm wrench
10mm socket
screw driver or panel removal tool (for push rivets)

You'll have to find the transmission range sensor (also called 'park/neutral switch' and 'neutral safety switch') located on the transmission. It will be at the other end of the shift cable that moves when you move the shift lever. I might be able to give you more detail but these vehicles came with more than one drivetrain and I would need to know which trim you have, i.e. GL, GLS, LIMITED, SE, or LX. The part number for it is: 1S5750 and it is around $25 from www.rockauto.com. It looks like this:

Once you find the switch, unplug it to see if the lights go out. If they do, then you know you need a new switch.

turn off automatically 15 minutes after the
ignition is moved to the LOCK position.
THIS SAVES BATTERY IF THEY FAIL.(MY COMMENT)

will occur if the interior lights were switched
on manually or are on because a door is open.
This includes the glove compartment light
and the cargo area light.
To restore interior
light operation, either place the ignition in
the ON/RUN position or cycle the light
switch."

THIS IS A SUPER GOOD FEATURE,.
WRECKING $175 BATTERY IS NOT. CHEAP OR EVER FUN.

You have a defective door ajar sensor most likely. I assume this is a factory system and not aftermarket. The sensors (one for each door and the hatch has 2) can be checked with a scan tool, they are located inside the doors attached to the door latch assembly.
