Sounds like starter solenoid. Tell your boyfriend to try this.... Have someone hold the key in the start position when it's acting up(Not cranking) then tap on the solenoid sharply but not aggressively. If the starter engages it is the solenoid needs replaced

Hi there i have a 2004 mk6 ford fiesta bassically starter motor continues to spin while engine is running i changed the starter motor about a month ago because i thought that was the problem it seemed to...

i would think this is an ignition switch problem if starter spins when ign key removed, the ign switch isn't cutting power to the starter circuit ,remove the steering column cowling panels and check for loose wires etc , with a voltmeter find the cranking wire , only comes live when key turned to starting position and should give no power when key returned to normal position , i suspect it is internal to the switch , you could try spraying wd40 into the switch barrel in case there is a sticking part otherwise a new ign switch will be required good luck ,keep me posted if you wish

Need to change ignition key wont turn

I had the same problem with my Buick Rendevouz about 6 months ago. Turned out it wasn't the key, but something malfunctioning within the steering column. They had to replace the plastic part that broke.

Turn the key but nothing happens all electrics

Not all replacement parts are good. I would guess that the new ignition switch is bad. Its also possible that the wiring harness is loose where its connected to the ignition switch. You could try jiggling the wires.

Possible ignition switch problem? 99 Explorer

key chime sounds if the little tab is grounded where the key contacts it. The theft light is supposed to blink when the system is armed to let you know it is armed. That's normal.

What do you mean by auto door locks won't unlock? The remote doesn't work? the door lock/unlock button on the door trim panel? Do they lock ok? Or, just unlock doesn't work?

NOTE: The generic electronic module/central timer module (GEM/CTM) is connected to the ISO link and is diagnosed through the data link connector (DLC) with New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester.
There are five warning chimes and lamps the GEM/CTM controls: headlamps operating without the ignition on (chime only), door ajar (chime and lamp), key-in-ignition (chime only), driver seat belt warning (chime and lamp), and message center.

Audible Warnings Warning Condition Lamp Duration Audible Duration Audible Output Safety Belt 60 Seconds 6 Seconds Chime, 60/Min. 740 Hz Key In Ignition — Continuous Chime, 120/Min. 740 Hz Headlamps On — Continuous Chime, 240/Min. 740 Hz Door Ajar Continuous 1 Second Single Tone, 1000 Hz Message Center (Tone Request) — 1 Second Single Tone, 1000 Hz
When the is turned to RUN or START from OFF or ACC, the chime will sound for six seconds or until the safety belt is buckled.
The will turn on for 60 seconds or until the driver safety belt is fastened. Both the chime and the lamp turn on at the same time.
If the safety belt is buckled before the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START, from OFF or ACC, neither the chime nor lamp will be activated.
Anytime the is changed to RUN from START while the safety belt warning indicator is activated, the safety belt warning indicator will remain activated until either the timing sequence has been executed or the safety belt is buckled.
When at least one door is ajar and the key is in the RUN position, the door ajar cluster lamp is activated and remains on until all doors are closed. A warning tone will sound once any time the key is in the ignition switch and any door is open.
The key-in-ignition warning will sound when the driver side is opened with the key in the and the in OFF or ACC. It will continue to sound until the key is removed, the is closed, or the is in RUN or START.
The headlamp-on reminder chime will be activated if the headlamps or parking lamps are on, the key is not in the ignition switch, and the driver door is opened.
A single tone will be provided each time a ground signal is received from the message center. A one-second tone will sound for warning indications from the message center. A 100 milli-second tone will sound for each message center button depressed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
  1. NOTE: The generic electronic module (GEM)/central timer module (CTM) must be reconfigured upon replacement. Refer to the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester help screen on the configuration card to program the Tire Size, Axle Ratio.
The power windows system and rear window defroster system are (GEM) controlled systems.

  • All Windows Operate With the Ignition in the OFF Position
  • Circuitry.
  • Accessory delay relay.
  • CHECK the accessory delay relay; REFER to Component Test. If OK, REPAIR circuit 400 (LB/BK). If not OK, REPLACE the accessory delay relay. TEST the system for normal operation.

1999 Toyota Corolla CE. For about 2 months, the engine does not start immediately. I need to turn the ignition key several times until it starts. Each time when I turn the key, a clicking sound happens...

it sounds like either your having a short at the starter or the ignition switch is bad, I am leaning towards the issue being the starter, usually when the ignition switch is going bad there will be no click,

Bypasing ignition

http://www.ehow.com/how_2044915_hotwire-car.html

Hotwiring is used inilligal activities but in your case i dont have a problem in showing you how its done.

1.) Remove the part of the dash covering your ignition key assembly
2.) There should be 5 to 8 wires there
3.) Locate 2 wires of similar color
4.) strip these wires and tie then together this will turn on the ignition
5.) find the starter wire usually blue and touch it to these wires, Imidately remove it when the car has started.
6.) tape them up

If your wireing is a bit different or you dont have similar color wires then
use steps 1 and 2 from above
3.) locate the the on positive wire
4.) run a wire grom the negative battery pole to the on positive wire. (U can strip each wire there and ground it to the wire from the battery pole , the correct one will turn the ignition on.
5.) once located tie it to the ground.
6.) touch each one of the expose wires one by one until the car tumbles and starts.
