SOURCE: Problem with Altenator belts Etude

the problem is not the altenator. you should have a idler pully and a self adjusting idler tensioner. if thes e go bad the bearings tend to seize up and break belts i would check these first chance you get the tensioner should be spring like and be hard to move back and forth the pulley part of it should spin freely with out makeing a noise. please rate this

SOURCE: Mazda etude alternator genarting excessive heat

1st off you would give everything a good visual examination. Look for loose alternator belt. Also look for wires that could have become disconnected or cut that leads to the alternator.

Then you would hook up a volt meter to the battery cables and check the voltage.
After this you would start the engine and recheck the voltage. The voltage on a charged battery should read around 12.5 volts. While the engine is running turn on a few accesories and speed up the idle a little the voltage should read around 14.5 volts.

If the voltage does not increase suspect either a faulty alternator or regulator.

SOURCE: timing belt setting and my car iddle are out of form mazda etude

Your camshaft and crankshaft pulleys have to be properly aligned upon installation of the timing belt. The cogs on the belt, should fit precisely with the teeth of the pulleys. Your # 1 engine cylinder should be moved to "Top Dead Center" before installing the belt. This means no compression once the top of the piston cylinder reaches the top of the chamber.

SOURCE: timing marks on 1999 mazda protege 1.6 lx

The book is wrong on each cam gear there are two sets of marks "notches align them facing each other in the center of head nevermind "I" and "E" if correct you'll have both of them making one line in the center of both pulleys and the other set of notches will be 45 degrees below. I found this out the hard way just finished with mine for info and tips on mechanics and parts for your ride visit my site at www.godspeedmotorsportsonline.com

I'm struggling to set the timing for my mazda etude 1996,my idling is also not stable, who can do it for me? prepered to pay, no chancers please !!!

Remove the plug from the 1st cylinder, insert a screw-driver, turn the crank by spanner until the screw-driver has moved upwards, and stopped moving. Make a mark on the crank pulley. Turn the crank further until the screw-driver starts moving downwards. Stop immediately and make another mark on the crank pulley. TDC would be right in the middle of the two marks, and your Etude should run optimally at about 12 degrees before TDC if high above sea level, otherwise 10-11 degrees should do.
