SOURCE: 1998 Saturn SL not sparking and not starting

onepx.gif 1. Test the AC voltage output from the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor while cranking at a normal speed. It should produce at least 250 millivolts.

2. Retest the voltage at the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on the Yellow wire in terminal D13 and the Purple wire in terminal D14.

SOURCE: solution for 1998 saturn sl

Hello DTC P0341 & P0133 very common saturn Codes. You need to check condition of Plugs & wires,If not New Replace All Plugs & Wires, also I would replace the #1#4 Coil for the P0341.For the P0133 Reaplce your front O2 sensor with an OEM sensor, not an aftermarket.

SOURCE: fuse box diagram for 1998 saturn sl

There is an interior fuse panel just to the left of the passenger's left knee. The cover It is held on by velcro. After you take off the cover, you will see a diagram on the inside of the cover telling you which fuse is for what. This is covered in your manual, which is in the glovebox. If you do not have a manual you can get one off ebay for a few bucks.

SOURCE: Location of knock sensor on

A knock sensor is threaded into the engine block and is supposed to sense when the engine starts to ping or spark knock and reduces the ignition timing accordingly. The knock sensor is located on the side of the engine.

  • Turn the ignition OFF.
  • Raise the vehicle.
  • Disconnect the knock sensor harness connector.
  • Remove the knock sensor attachment bolt and the knock sensor.

  • Important: The larger metal contact area of the knock sensor MUST be toward the engine block. DTC P0327 may result if the sensor is installed backwards.

  • Install the knock sensor and attachment bolt with the larger metal contact area toward the engine block.

Code 327 and336 on my saturn 1998 sl

    clunch ? clutch Are those P codes ? P0327 an P0336
The knock sensor is a piezoelectric device that produces an output voltage based on mechanical engine vibration. The PCM will retard the electronic spark timing on the signal being received. The knock sensor produces an AC signal. The amplitude and signal frequency is dependent upon the knock level. During normal operation, the knock sensor system attempts to filter out all engine noise that is not caused by spark knock. The diagnostic test for DTC P0327 turns OFF all filtering during the first 20 seconds of engine run time. If a sufficient amount of noise is detected during the 20 second test, the diagnostic passes. If no noise is detected, the diagnostic fails. Since DTC P0327 is a type B code, the diagnostic must fail during 2 consecutive ignition cycles to set the DTC.
    DTC P0336
The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor defines engine position by generating an electrical pulse each time it passes by a notch of the crankshaft reluctor wheel. The PCM uses crankshaft sensor pulses for fuel delivery and spark timing.

I have a saturn sl2 and i replaced the knock sensor and the check engine light still coming on saying circuit low

At times it may not be the sensor that is the issue but the components which is surrounding the sensor which gives it its readings. It could be dirt or adjustments such as timing or dirty sensors or even wiring issues.
