2001 dodge stratus 2.4 l my car runs good but when driving it shifts slowing down shifts hard to check fluid its good don't smell bad no leaks anywhere no check engine on what else could it be?

COULD BE LOSS OF ALL TRASMISSION FLUID, BROKEN HOSE, BLOWN PUMP,BURNT TRANSMISSION RINGS( HOW DID THE TRANNY OIL SMELL?) BURNT TRANNY FLUID OR A COMBINATION OF ANY OF THE ABOVE. IF IT JUST QUIT, YOU PROBABLY HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT WILL REQUIRE A REBUILD OR A SALVAGE TRANSMISSION FROM A LOCAL WRECKING YARD. THE LATTER BEING THE CHEAPEST AND AT TIMES THE BETTER DEAL ALL AROUND, TIME WISE AND MONEY. VERSUS A REBUILD THAT REQUIRES NEW PARTS, BANDS, PUMP, SEALS AND ON AND ON PLUS HOURS OF LABOR TO FIX EQUALS ONE BIG BIG BILL!BEING A 2001 A TRANNY FROM A WRECKING YARD ISN'T GOING TO HAVE THAT MANY MILES ON IT EITHER SO YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND SOME PRETTY DECENT ONES. I had the same thing! It was a computer issue. It only cost me about $35.00.

I have had the same problem before. Everything you have said matches the exact problems I had. I was also driving down the road when my problems started. My speedometer stop working and my car wouldn't shift out of 2nd. I had a family friend who is a mechanic check it out. He hooked it up to the computer and it ended up being the Turbine Sensor. However you would want to hook it up and find out exactly which sensor it might be because there is another sensor that can cause that problem as well. I think this happend to me about a year ago but the part costed maybe around $30 or $40.

Yes it's a bad seal and most likely the side bearing to the trans axle is bad too. Once the bearing has play, it vibrates and causes the oil to leak though the seal. Note: if one side went bad the other side is soon to follow since they have the same amount of miles on them. Might as well change both side. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep an eye on the transmission fluid level, don't want to burn out the transmission.
