Go look at it. That is the only way to tell for sure.

Literally get under the truck and go look.

SOURCE: TRANSMISSION OIL PAN

the depth of the tranny pan isn't really important. if you want to check the fluid let the vehicle idle and check it while its running unless its manual than you'll have to do it from underneath

SOURCE: 1998 Blazer Transmission Pan Depth

If the pan is flat all the across it is a regular pan. If it has a step near the back edge and a circular indentation in a front corner (may have a drain plug in it) then it is a deep pan!

If it is a two wheel drive, most likely has shallow pan has the deep pan.But measure the deepness of the pan.Put the ruler beside the one of the bolts on the pan.If it is over 2 and 1/4 inch deep,it is the deep pan.Hope fully this will help.

Where is the oil filter located on a 1999 oldsmobile bravada?

There is a plastic door located under the front of the vehicle - it opens with a 1/2 turn plastic retainer - the oil filter is located inside - be careful removing the filter, as it will drip oil onto the inside of this pan and end up dripping all over your driveway eventually

I am trying to change the transmission fluid in my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer.

This tranny has approximately 13 quarts of fluid. Just dropping the pan and replacing the filter will yield about 5 quarts or so, with the balance still sitting in the torque converter. I recommend just doing this instead of paying someone to power flush the system. There are debates whether or not this method will damage the tranny. When I did it, I got around 6-7 quarts out of it. Use GM's new transmission fluid Dextron VI. It's much better than the old stuff. GM starting putting the Dextron VI in 2009 and newer vehicles. Make sure you know what size your pan is, there is a shallow pan and a deep pan, the deep will have a step in it, the shallow will be completely flat.

There is another way to get rid of all the fluid, but it's very time consuming and difficult if you've never done one before. Involves disconnecting the transmission fluid cooler line at the radiator and having the pump inside the tranny pump out all the fluid for you.

Tranny pan is the shallow pan under tranny. Oil pan is the big deep pan under the engine block

My trany wont go in revers and will not shift forward gears untill u let off the throtle a litle

Could be a need to rebuild transmission, but start with a simple transmission fluid change and filter change. If filter is plugged, could prevent the pressure build up necessary for automatic transmission to engage.

All of this assumes the fluid level is correct.

If you can do yourself, probably less than $20, closer to $100 to $150 at a shop, and they will drop the transmission pan and tell you it needs a $3000 rebuild because of grit in the pan. (all transmissions accumulate grit and fine metal shavings. There is a magnet in the bottom of the pan to attract any small shavings.)
