Key fob that stopped working slowy...sometimes worked, hit and miss till stopped working all together. Spare key fob that I switched to did the same thing????

NO CAR TOLD AT ALL, MAKER, MODEL , YEAR.
SO ALL ANSWERS WILL BE WRONG, GENERIC OR WILD GUESSING.

ALL Inside car door lock switches all work?
ok key part works and engine runs and drives perfectly
all fuses in the car are good as in ALL FUSES>
the fob batteries must not be put in upside down
my cars for sure 5years up the fob buttons are just bad.
my 2010 car , on 3rd set now, for worn out buttons
i dismantle bad fobs fully and the gold contact area of the switch looks like a
shotGun blast or eat up by acid.
totally normal on fobs. used every day endless. (body sweat etc)
buy new fobs and get them programmed in , is the cure.

Three possibilities - either the fob has stopped working, the receiver or other on-car devices has stopped working or the system has developed amnesia and forgotten the code.

Using the spare fob might persuade it to work or if you haven't a spare you could try a new battery in the one you do have. A friend left his fob and keys on top of the microwave oven once and it wiped the code from the memory.

The owner or user can do little more than fit a new battery. Specialised equipment is needed and no little amount of experience to test the system, diagnose and rectify the faults.
The dealer or an auto locksmith would provide the answer.

You may have to replace the key fob. You could just stop using it and go back to the old fashioned key.

The "key" (it is a squared off fob right?) needs to be reprogrammed I believe. Some auto locksmiths can do this. Dealer certainly can, but they are expensive. Also, sometimes those square fobs have a spare key hidden inside the fob that will work. Not sure of the year models those came with, but I remember using one on a magnum rental car once.

This model year comes equipped with Keyless Enter-N-Go, which uses an electronic transmitter in the key fob to communicate with the car. The vehicle's doors will not unlock and the vehicle will not start if the key fob is not matched to the vehicle or if the commonly-available watch battery in the key fob has been depleted. The EVIC will flash a message upon vehicle startup if it determines that the battery in your key fob is low on charge and should be replaced.

To open the doors, try the following:

1. Use the spare key fob that came with the vehicle. If the battery in your main key fob is depleted, the spare key fob's battery may still retain charge due to its much more occasional use.

2. The key fob comes with an emergency key inside of it. To remove the emergency key, slide the mechanical latch on the back of the key fob sideways with your thumb and then pull the key out with your other hand. This key will allow you to unlock the driver's side door and glove compartment. It will not start the vehicle.

To start the car with a severely-depleted key fob battery, try the following:

1. In case the ignition switch does not change with the push of a button, the RKE transmitter (Key Fob) may have a low or dead battery. In this situation a back-up method can be used to operate the ignition switch. Put the nose side (side opposite of the emergency key) of the Key Fob against the ENGINE START/STOP button and push to operate the ignition switch.

To replace the battery in your key fob, try the following:

1. Remove the emergency key from the key fob following the directions above.

2. Using a vinyl spudger tool or a flat-bladed screwdriver, gently pry the two halves of the key fob apart at the indented slot above the slot for the emergency key.

3. Replace the depleted battery with a new battery. Use the depleted battery to visually match the size. The battery is usually available wherever watch or hearing-aid batteries are sold.

4. Snap the key fob back together and replace the emergency key. If the issue is a depleted battery, your key fob should operate normally.

If the issue is not related to the state of the battery, you will probably need to contact your local dealer for service.

The key fob must be programmed at the dealer to work with more than one fob.

yes it has a battery ,but not sure if just renewing the battery will make it work again,i changed both my batteries on my remotes (spare) without any problem.for

The battery in your remote key fob can be changed.But the spare key has to be programed to work.Take your main key to the dealers And have them do it for you.
