Fuse of fuel level sensor

The first step that i would suggest taking is going to require a decent scan tool (can be borrowed at Autozone or Oreilleys). You need to pull up live data on the ECM and see if it is receiving any data for fuel level. The level sender in the tank goes to connector C3 pin 26 on the PCM and is a dark blue/white wire. The PCM sends the fuel level information over the network to the instrument cluster. If the PCM is not getting a signal from the fuel level sender you should get a check engine light and a code P0463 (fuel level sensor high) or a P0462 (fuel level sensor low). If everything else works and the PCM is able to read the level, your problem is highly likely your instrument cluster. They can usually be rebuilt and fixed. If the PCM is not receiving level data and you have P0462 P0463, then your problem is most likely going to be the level sender in the tank, but could also be that dark blue/white wire- both will need to be checked. The fuel level sensor of Hyundai Santa Fe is mounted in the fuel level sensor unit. The sensor detects a fuel level in the fuel tank and transmits a signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM). It's not a fuse problem , fuel sending unit in side the fuel tank is bad or the gauge itself is . Your best bet , have it diagnosed by a qualified repair shop .
The fuel level sending unit in the gas tank is a input to the PCM - engine computer . The PCM shares this fuel level info to the instrument cluster over the class 2 serial data network . If a fuse was bad the whole instrument cluster would be out .

Fuel Gage
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the fuel level as determined by the powertrain control module (PCM). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel level volume. The fuel gage defaults to E (empty) if:
• The PCM detects a malfunction in the fuel level sensor circuit.
• The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.
When the fuel level is less than 14 percent, the low fuel indicator illuminates.

It sounds like your Fuel Level Sending Unit, usually located with the Fuel Pump inside the gas tank, has gone out. The Fuel Level Sending Unit sends the signal to your ECU, and then it goes to the Fuel Level gauge. Replace the Fuel Level Sending Unit and your gauge should be back to normal.

The computer does a sweep test everytime it senses power. Check it next time you turn the key to run the gages do a little self test. However the fuse and gage won't be your problem. They are very bad for the fuel level sensor in the tank getting corrupted or dirty and doesn't read properly. You can try to add port fuel injector cleaner to the tank, but problem will usually reoccur. You will need the fuel tank dropped and the level sensor replaced.

the fuel gage is inop for one reason 99% of the time, that is that the fuel level sender for the gage is defective, the level sensor of course is inside the fuel tank, on this model the fuel tank must be removed to replace the fuel level sensor or sending unit as some call it.

1. This is if it is an internal filter, if it is not you still have to pull the whole bottom of the back seat out and look for the inspection plate.
   
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure by first removing the fuel pump fuse. Then, start the engine and allow it to run until it stalls. Crank the engine for 2 to 3 seconds to release the pressure Turn the ignition off.
   
3. Step 2 Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the rear seat bottom and the inspection hole cover. Disconnect the electrical and quick connectors and remove the six screws. Remove the fuel level sensor unit and the fuel pump assembly. Then, take out the flange and snap fit portion of the fuel pump.
   
4. Step 3 Remove the fuel tank temperature sensor harness, the fuel level sensor flange, and the fuel pump connector. Disconnect the quick connectors from the fuel level sensor, and remove the fuel level sensor from the chamber. Take out the fuel filter.
   
5. Step 4 Put the new fuel filter in the chamber, followed by the fuel level sensor. Attach the quick connectors to the fuel sensor. Connect the fuel pump connector and put the fuel level sensor flange and fuel tank temperature sensor harness back.
   
6. Step 5 Place the fuel pump assembly inside the tank. Replace the screws and electrical connectors. Reattach the quick connectors. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
   
7. Step 6 Start your car and check for leaks, and make repairs if necessary. When repairs are complete, replace the inspection hole cover and the rear seat bottom.
   

Not a fuse.There is no fuse for the level sensor.These are known for fuel level sensors being bad.Sometimes they will leave a code and sometimes not.You can check codes and see if you have a fuel level sensor code.The other thing you can do is check the connections and make sure they are clean and on securely.If you find that the level sensor is bad.Then it is easier to replace if the fuel in the tank is as low as possible for easier removal of the fuel tank.Hope this helps.Good luck.
