Keys work to lock doors and unlock the trunk but will not remotely unlock the doors, so we have ruled out battery issues, tried reprogramming the keys...what next?
I recently called the Volkswagen Dealership and spoke with the service manager
about why my passenger doors no longer unlock using either of my two
remotes...but all doors do unlock using the key in the exterior door lock, and by using the driver door master control switch. Note: The remotes are new, have been programmed by the dealership, and have fresh batteries in them. The VW service manager
said "it sounds like the control module has a bad circuit". The fix would
be a new control module, parts and 2 hours labor would be about $530.00. I mentioned that my original car
battery is over eight years old and weak and needs to be replaced, and asked if that could be
the problem. He said "NO that a weak battery wouldn't cause only that
one single lock malfunction".
My husband went to the local auto parts
store today and purchased a new battery for the car and installed it himself.
Cost was just under $190.00 w/tax for the battery, but we purchased the top
of the line "Interstate" battery. THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM! The remote
problem is gone! All doors will lock and unlock as they did when the car was new!
I'm happy to share the good news with everyone out there who may be
experiencing the same problem. If your battery could be weak, try replacing
it first before spending money on a new module. Cheers!
